No, it's not JUST a mmorpg, it's a MMOFPSRPG !
evidence of RPG:

1. Ark Falls = Raids
2. Leveling, & weapons requiring a certain level
3. quests
4. Weapon socketing & mod embedding
5. mounts = Vehicles

1. Ark falls do NOT equal raids. Raids require organization, a huge time investment, and strategy. Ark falls are random zone events that any idiot can jump in and shoot things and collect prizes.
2. There's no levels, just rating. Your ego rating is like a gamerscore. And by the time you get any weapons that have requirements, you're already past that ego rating (unless somebody traded it to you).
3. Almost every game has quests, doesn't make it an RPG, just means it has storyline.
4. Not every RPG has weapon socketing, so I don't see how this counts. You're just trying to compare it to WoW, not general RPG features.
5. Again, not every RPG has this, so it is not a feature of RPG.

Grand Theft Auto has quests and vehicles. Is it an rpg? No, it's in a classification of its own. This game is its own classification, and does not have to meet any requirements of an RPG, or MMORPG, or anything. People need to stop expecting it to be similar to one game or another, because it's not trying to be!

According to the fundamentalist/literalist "logic" expressed in this thread, games like Halo and BF are also role-playing games, because you play the role of a soldier -- hence, playing a role, hence role playing game. Yep, when I look at lists of the best RPGs ever made, well Halo is certainly in the top 10. Certainly.

But hey it's much more fun to make stuff up, define terms idiosyncratically and then troll gaming forums. That's roleplaying too -- playing the roll of a troll, plain and simple.

Or you're reading it backwards and someone is claiming Defiance is an RPG because Trion used the words "play the role" in PR materials.

So CoD is an RPG?
1. Zombies/spec-ops = raids

3. Ok no "Quest" but it has a main story.

The point im trying to make is that just because it has those things does not make it a RPG. What I would say does if anything is the EGO powers/perks. Don't mean to be a ****.

People need to quit insisting this game needs to be more like World of Warcraft.

This is not the same genre of games. Yes it is massively multiplayer. But it is a third person shooter. If we are going to compare this to anything lets compare it to APB. To me this game is closer to APB than any other game.

MMOTPS....not MMORPG. Get it right. Its like me saying NBA2k13 needs to be more like Halo 4

Yes this game is Massively Multiplayer your correct as for RPG thats Subjective. Role Play Game. I actually Role Play my Character Thus it counts. As for needing to being more Like WoW. Pow Shtako. Enough other games are doing that. We could use a better Social Area to hang out while waiting for Arkfalls with chairs we can sit in. this game is a "MMORPG3rdPS" It's in a class by itself..

i guess people miss some point. most of what i have seen say it have no RPG part into this.

the RPG, or Role Playing Game are generally a game when your character will evolve and gain capacity and equipement over the time. (you can say too knowledge and other stuff that represent the evolution of your avatar)
Ego rating allows you to get more passive, you will get point for each exp bar filled to buy new competence and you will get weapon and othr stuff from the quest (yes the mission are quest even if some think is not quest)

it have every RPG component needed. however they prefer call it MMOTPS. then this talk it's pointless.

I promised to do the "Forrest Gump" thing on the subject and not say anything more on the subject, so I will not express my opinion on the matter anymore. I will just say I have enjoyed the argument between Hawty and Jnt the most out of anyone. The whole, "I think I love you at this point," made me laugh. Though their argument was the most entertaining (and continues to be), I have liked reading others as well. Please keep posting. I have my opinions concerning each post, but I will just continue reading and continue to be entertained. Please keep this thread going. Quote my previous posts or not (It would make me feel "validated," or not, but would be cool). That would be great, but I really don't care...not completely. I just ask that you continue this thread. The reason people having a hard time because only fantasy role playing game is very known for it and the only one that able to have mmo on it.

But now its not alone and we have a 3rd person shooter.

Soon we will have driving in a mmo, I think test drive was trying to do this.
