I'm now past that point now but I can tell you know that before I was wasting a lot of time trying to find ways to get past it but then I looked up the internet and found out of how you get past it and I went mad as hell lol.

Everyone telling you that you have to finish the main quest is lying. THIS is how you beat it.
1.Start a clan, not just any clan a blood thirsty gets the job done even if it means killing citizens clan.
2.Sacrifice a 2 year old to Odin (IRL and in Defiance)
3.Schedule a clan meeting at the spot you spawn at after the tutorial
4a.After everyone has gathered Head to the Golden Gate Bridge
4b.Have people walking in front, the ATV's behind them, The rollers behind the ATV's, The challengers behind them (white,red,black,orange in that order) then have the Cerberus' In the way back. YOU MUST MOB and NEVER EVER EVER break the train!
5. RAZE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PATH NOTHING MUST STAND
6. By the time you get to the bridge the robot would have heard about you and your clan and will have run away in fear.
7. Force your clan onto the bridge
8. Blow it up because you didn't get to kill the robot like you planned so everyone is now worthless.

You go through the main storyline. Or if you want to get to San Fran that bad, fast travel to someone who is already there. (Such as myself.)
