I have been console gaming for over 20 years and its the first game that I have played in years that keeps me glued to the sofa and in front of the T.V!!! Trouble is a lot of current generation gamers have been spoon fed the AAA titles and if the graphics are not outstanding they dismiss the game. I'd love to stick some of these people in front of my old Spectrum 128k and show them that gameplay prevails everytime!

Any seasoned, serious gamer would know its kind of pointless to review a game like this for a few weeks as early issues tend to get ironed out and companies like Trion actually listen to their audience and try to help. They even put back dlc which would make them money, because they are prioritising the more serious issues beforehand. To me this makes OXM look clueless and irresponsible, do they even know the market they write about?

Trion apparently didn't pay OXM for a good review, good choice I say!

reviews don't really mean a lot.

One person could love the game to pieces, where as one person could hate it with a passionate rage, its all down to personal preference.

wheres a good example.. *looks through game collection*....
Dragon's Dogma got decent reviews (if memory serves), but i found the game a bit "Meh" and clunky.
Bullet Storm got AWFUL reviews, close to duke nukem forever! but i adore that game, and still play it if I'm feeling slightly sadist and creative.

i guess what im saying is: you can't take the word of one person as gospel....especially from a magazine.

Edit: Also, totally agree with JammyThumbs. Graphics don't make a game. the game makes the game a game (makes sense in my head =/ )

There really isn't much in this game that's impressive yet. Its honestly an average MMO at best. Trion could have learned a few things from Firefall before developing the this game.

I pay no attention to games reviews. I personally really like Defiance and my score would be 8.0, as it stands. Ok it is rough around the edges, a bit more polish to the GFX would not go a miss but I can see a ton of potential in the game especially if the TV show takes off (it actually looks quite good from what I have seen).

Game reviewers don't see that. Over the last couple of years I have really gone off games that have been dumbed down to the extent that they are not much more than an on the rails, tightly scripted adventure with Quicktime events, limited exploration and interactivity which takes you 7 hours to complete. The games reviews will then label it as a masterpiece and give the game 9s and 10s. 'The story is amazing and pulls you in from the off'. I'll read a book if I want a good story. The game is then one scripted scene after another where you get to press the X or the B button at certain moments.

So Defiance breaks that mold, has a ton of playability, is fun to play and takes a bit of thinking on the players behalf. However because the game has had teething problems, the GFX are not fantastic and they just do not understand the mechanics of the game, or what it is trying to do the reviewers choose to score it low.

To me the industry has just got stale with games like COD, Max Payne, Dishonored, Tomb Raider etc etc tedious linear progression with all the fun sucked out. However Defiance has re-ignited my faith in console games. I hope it does well because it will then be the start of bigger and better games of this type to follow.
