When I purchase a single player game, yeah I expect it to work when I buy it. Purchase an MMO and be prepared to have a rough launch, lots of patching, and issues to arise.

Purchased Ultima Online, Everquest, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, Star Wars Galaxies, Earth and Beyond, Anarchy Online, Guild Wars, DCUO, Star Wars The Old Republic, Lord of the Rings Online, City of Heroes, Aion, Final Fantasy XI, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Star Trek Online, Rift, Dark Age of Camelot, Vanguard, Shadowbane, and many, many, more. I spent anywhere from $50 for standard editions and up to $150 for CEs and I can say that I have yet to see a perfect release of an MMO.
MMOs are ever changing worlds, with thousands of people playing them at once and at the same time. Not every single aspect of the game can be tested in alphas or betas, there is no way to catch every single bug, or every issue that may arise due to a players connection, system specs, etc. before a game releases. That is why developers have a dedicated team always working on the game so these issues can be fixed as quickly as possible. This dedicated team will also be the ones to make sure that new content gets delivered in a timely manner and fixes any issues that may arise when it does. This is the first MMO to come out on all 3 platforms at the same time. There are going to be different issues on each platform and there are going to be issues that hit all three.
Be patient and let Trion get the critical issues fixed! If you are not used to playing an MMO or a game on the scale of Defiance, than give it a few months and revisit your complaints later. If you aren't happy with the fixes or the game, than leave and don't look back. You aren't hurting anyone by coming on to the forums posting about how much you hate the game or are disappointed in what you got at release.
For every person that quits, another one is just buying the game because their friends are telling them how awesome this game is. You can't deny the fact that this game is only going to cost $60 (standard edition) and you never have to pay another dime for it, if you choose not to. You will always be able to get to the new areas and play with friends, unlike a few shooters I know that you can only play the new areas/maps with your friends if you buy them too.
