Friend of mine said this not long ago during a big ERMAGERD XBOX vs PCsssss argument.
"Consoles are to gamers what Justin Bieber is to music fans. Yeah, he may have a lot of them, but they're mostly 13 and will grow out of it at some point."

Wow, this ENTIRE thread is just complete mental ******ation.
"Destiny is going to wipe out Defiance!"
No, it WONT. Defiance and destiny/GTA5/COD/whatever else are NOT EVEN IN THE SAME MARKET.
First off, Defiance is an MMORPG. these games you are writing abaout are single player games. I quit mmos to play single player story-based games all the time. when I'm done, where do i go? right back to my mmo. Unless another better MMO comes out, to compete with defiance theres no way these stupid movie-games are going to be able to beat it.
Second, Defiance is a cross platform game. meaning that the defiance servers will probably remain online long after your xbox 360 becomes the xbox720 or whatever bullcrap, because pc players will be on it long after destiny has come and gone.
Third, Half the people even in this thread have never even heard of destiny. Defiance has its own god damn TV show. which do you think is selling better right now?
Fourth Destiny isnt slated to come out for years, and by that time players still within the defiance community wil probably be invested veterans who love the game and community so much that they wouldnt leave it for this crap. all of you cod fanboys will probably be shouveling your money into 5 more COD games by then and be out of our hair. Not to mention, Destiny, its own sequels are going to kill its user base for any multiplayer content it has, which is probably going to be next to nothing and definitely not any kind of mmo.
There are more xbox players than any other community
No, there is not. It might seem like it, but PCs are cheaper (see next point), more versatile machines (there are people who dont ever buy a console but will buy a PC for work, and use it for games too) and more available (outside of first world countries, pretty much all gamers are PC gamers). the age group using PCs going from children to adults whiole consoles seem to be dominated by younger male children to young males in their 20's. Female gamers, adult gamers, and low income gamers almost exclusively play PC games only. Steam and DRM is murdering the console game market with low prices and a huge selection, as well as the fact that certain ENTIRE genres like MMO, casual, and indie games are almost exclusive to PC, while consoles get AAA titles only, and a limited selection at that depending on the console you want.
Plus basically every data site ever basically supports the fact that there is easily at least twice the gamers on PC than the total amount of console gamers between all three major console platforms combined. Sure most people buy COD on xbox, but sorry to say, only a small portion of "gamers" play COD and halo. Those games have a very VERY narrow fan audience for male 13 to 21 year olds and of that group a huge number still do not have interest in the game. Defiance appeals to this demographic as well as female and any age of gamers, because it is an MMO and includes social element.
PC gaming Rigs cost upwards of $1,000
All you need is a modern processor some ram and a video card to run most games. you dont need a massive rig just to get by. You could throw a cheap machine together for 300$ or get a REALLY NICE machine together with a top video card for as little as $600. Lets also note To buy a machine that has equal specs to the ps3, you could easily do this with 300$, because consoles use the CHEAPEST components to possibly turn out to make a profit.
But even if you do drop 1000$, lets keep in mind that the average life span of a console is about 3 to 40 years before it is dated. To actually take advantage of that whole time, you have to buy your console when it first comes out, which could cost between $400 (wii) and $800 (ps3). some people spent even more than that. What? the console is cheaper now? cool! buy a used playstation 3 for 300$. but keep in mind now that that consoles only going to last 1 or 2 years till ps4 comes out, and you wont be able to play new games, in which gcase the "new hardware" arguement is invalid.
So your PC is still good. chugging along. But oh dear, it seems to be choking up on new games! but all you have to do is upgrade the video card. or maybe add some ram, and voila, you are good to go for another 2 or 3 years of gaming on only 200$. And next time you finally need a new processor you can save the parts of the old machine.
Throw in the fact that your computer can be used for a multitude of other things besides playing AAA games, and you can pretty much argue that buying a console is about as good of a value as throwing your money in the trash.
but alas, many users are too stupid and lazy, or just 13 year olds who get handed these machines without even buying them themselves, so this post is pretty much wasted.
Defiance is a console to PC port
ALL games are made on PC for PC or made on PC and ported to consoles, this is a rediculous arguement. there is no such thing as a console to PC port, just poorly designed UI.
I do not see why people insist on bringing up this ridiculous idea that Destiny and Defiance will have any effect on eachother, they are 2 totally different games releasing months apart, and one is not even on PC.
- One step forwards, two steps back.
Destiny from what the devs/journalists have told us is not a MMO, but a 4 player co-op / 16 player competitive multiplayer game. It has social features that are borderline MMO, but I would not consider it an actual MMO. More like a social co-op. I am rather alarmed that they plan to constantly change the game world. To me that sounds like a huge cost, which means the player base will need to pay for it somehow. Major micro transactions or even subs are definitely a possibility...
Considering how Destiny opened preorders with two bits of concept art, I really don't care about it. I'll wait until it's in beta to give a damn what they have to say.
I'm a PC gamer, haven't owned a console since the sega Saturn so destiny will have no impact on my time with defiance whatsoever.
I would consider myself a gamer as in I try and play the best version of the game via the preferred platform, whether that be consoles or PCs.
Just lately the sheer lack of creativity on the consoles makes me seriously question whether the "golden age" of console gaming may be coming to an end. Flicking from my Gamer 360 mag there is not one title on the current gen of consoles that interests me as the huge volume of sequels and FPS is just tedious.
However whenever I boot up Steam, or flick through Kickstarter / Indie projects there are a wealth of games that appeal to me. Consoles are great for hyping triple AAAs but they are few and far between as well as being dominated by FPS or 3rd Person Shooters. When I consider that the natural home for FPS's is a mouse and keyboard combo anyway I am decreasingly seeing the point in consoles.
After the lacklustre reveal of the PS4, the worrying rumours from neXtbox land (e.g. always online, no backwards compatibility, hardware basically the same as my current 3 year old PC etc.) and the complete "so-what" of the Wii-U I'm not quite sure what the draw is any more...
As to the topic Destiny is not even going to be on Defiances radar its so far out. News flash, there will be new games released, some will be great, players will go play them. Some will also play Defiance.
A owner of all consoles since atari here and mostley Pc gamer.
Again all platforms have pro s and cons.
That being said i think Destiny will do good for its target audience.
To the point off ppl being so arrogant that they say xbox has biggest game community ouch.
You probably look at the aaa titles that are sold, you do seem to forget the pff countless mmo s on pc for one.
Besides that you seem to forget the moba communities, even starcraft.
"League of Legends" now has 70 million Summoner names registered (think gamer tags) with 32 million active players participating in the highly competitive multiplayer online strategy game.
This quote talks off 32 m in high comp thats nto even talking about the lower ones.
Go to twitch tv and look at how many ppl (52k atm) are watching(just watchign)LOL(league of legends) and how many ppl stream.
Again you must be looking at the so called trip a titles only then because if you opened your eyes you woudl see a broad scala
off games with milliones in them on pc.
Again all platforms have pro s and cons (and yes i have both xboxs) but and not meant elitist pc will always even with piratisme
stay on top.
