Different color mods for weapons

I have only seen white mods for weapons at vendors---Where do you get the other color mods from?

you can get them out of the lockbox if you buy a synergy cache and also some of the side missions award them as well.

You get them from either vendor specials, or mod caches. You can buy mod caches or you get them allot when doing side missions.

Most of the ones I've gotten have come from lock boxes. I don't check vendors nearly enough to see much of anything there. I've gotten one or two while on missions but I honestly don't recall if that was a reward or a drop.

I've gotten a few greens and a single blue mod, most through the side missions but a couple were the special at a vendor.

I have terrible luck getting mods from the side mission's though. It's random so you never know what you'll get and I keep getting things for the BMGs, which I don't use. I tried to give some away after an arkfall last night to someone who was healing everyone, but they didn't take my trade invite.
