It has me anticipating each step like I do a good episode of my favorite tv series. The problem is that the story line is fairly short and when finished you are left to doing side quests and silly car racing things that I have no interest in. The game devolves into a mess of repetitive quests that all feel like they are exactly the same.

They did throw in the old MMORPG standard of reputation questing but in its current form it ends up being really silly because you can literally only finish one quest per faction each day and a second quest that can only be done weekly. Not much of a time synch.

Other things that are frustrating in the game, at least for me, are the UI, chat and the inventory system. I use inventory system loosely because frankly it's so bad that it is more frustrating then useful. The UI while functional is clearly built for consoles but any time you need to search online to find out how to exit the game, you know you have a problem.

Chat is borked beyond belief and honestly is the most poorly designed game element ever included in an online game. The tossed in VOIP for good measure but even that is unbelievably broken. Imagine being forced to listen to a mouth breather getting yelled at by his mom for not cleaning his room, the entire time you are grouped. Yep it's that bad (the defaulted to voice activated instead of push-to-talk.)

The one thing the game has going for it is the TV series tie in. However that is potentially it's weakest link. The SyFy channel isn't know for having a good track record for original series. They tend to cancel even good shows with decent ratings simply because it is cheaper to replace the show with a reality based show like wrestling or Ghost hunting (May the fleas of 1000 camels infect the underwear of the person that came up with the idea for reality shows. So once SyFy channel cancels the series some time in the next 1-2 years what happens to the game?

So to answer your question, I expected a MMO that had long term potential. I think that is a fair expectation. It isn't what was delivered despite the fanboys saying otherwise. If your idea of doing Arkfalls all day is fun then I guess we have different definitions of the word. Had Arkfalls been implemented like Rifts in Trions other game then I might agree with your assessment more.
Only problem I have with Arkfall's, is they almost always seem to be Hellbug Destructions.

Speaking of Rift, when Rift first came out, the Rift were quite few.

We're not even 2 weeks into Defiance, there will be more Arkfall types.

They will fix the chat and hopefully the UI.

These are things that have been covered quite well in the Blog.

Not a fanboy, I just take Oveur at his word that they are working to improve most of the things that we have been complaining about.

This game could have gotten way with it too if the game play was better.

Yeah please apologize for me pointing out the idiocy of the OP comment on graphics. Thanks for helping me out. LMAO
Meanwhile WoW, who has among the most ****ty graphics of any modern game is the most popular MMO.

    Just sayin'

While these graphics are passable they are at best borderline. Personally i think you made this post because you have an old system that can't handle updated graphics so you want everyone to suffer with you.

Edit: LOL I missed the fact you are on an XBox. Disregard my post, you guys are back in 1995.
Tell that to the creator(s) of minecraft.

Not really. It has it's own style. The new areas look gorgeous. The new character models and mobs look great too.

I understand your point and I hope you are right. I'm not trying to give the impression that i want the game to fail because the exact opposite is true. This is a new type of MMO and I really want to keep playing it. However even with the lessons learned from Rift and all the feedback we provided all the way thru testing back to Alpha, were completely ignored. That doesn't give me a good feeling that I should trust that this game will improve anytime soon. Their comment about taking weeks to put out a client side patch also tends to make me think the target audience was consoles becuase that's how they work. For online PC games client side patches could be done daily to fix issues.

I am just really frustrated that some of use took the time to inform them of issues and nothing was done prior to launch. What i see happening now is that this game will die not because they didn't fix the issues but because by the time they do most of the player base will have already jumped ship.

Not a mainstream game when released. This was a very small indie production that never expected to hit it big time.

My apologies but I'm missing your point? What does my rig have to do with the conversation?

I agree with you about the testing!

Now, put it into perspective. They roll out super patches and content for PC while XBOX and PS3 have to wait, mostly due to M$(most likely), how do you think that would weight against the Console users? I for one, would be pissed, just as I would if they did the same for the consoles...rolled out patches and content while we waited.

Truth be told, Barney Stinson is right, the console player base, eclipses the PC player base for this game. The Console software development is more difficult, so, as a developer, let's make the UI and Chat, and all that geared for the more complicated development platform, then we can tweak the baseline PC components to suit our PC audience.

But first, we need a baseline across ALL THREE platforms that has them in good working order. (release day) ****! XBOX servers are FUBAR...the tweaks and content will have to wait, we need to get things smooth across the board first, then adjust from there.

At least that how it should be approached, so no one platform feels like it's being ignored, or you lose that platforms trust and player base.

As of now, I can play the game, I can chat with my friends in game, I can access everything in the UI, even if it may be over-clicky.

It all works. It's not what I'm used to, but it work, and I can frag the shtako out of everything, it imo, it looks amazing for a Science Fiction TPSMMORPG. Some of the terrain, once you get out of the starting area, is gorgeous, super colorful flora everywhere, amazing lighting effects for some of the weapons and mobs. Love the scrapper arkfalls and mobs.

I'm quite enjoying the experience as a whole, even if I hate the chat system, it works, mostly.

I'm not even gonna get into VOIP, because as a PC user, I use VENT or TS3 anyhow.
