Defiance PvP?

Potentially a noob question here, feel free to throw live cougars at me if I'm being a complete failure here, but...

Is Defiance going to force open-world PvP? Or can we choose not to flag?

Because one thing that annoys me in any MMO is Mr. Max-Level-Obviously-More-Skilled-Than-You-Nothing-To-Do-With-A-Thirty-Level-Difference (phew!) comes and one shots you out of nowhere whilst you're killing NPCs and then proceeds to camp you.

I mean, I'm still getting Defiance, nothing's changing that. I just wanted to know if I'm going to have to be watching my back and abusing the cloak EGO power whenever the above jumps me.

I'm too soft, I know. Maybe I can hug enemies to death?

Also, if this has been addressed elsewhere, feel free to close the thread, my google-fu is rather atrocious.

PVP is opt-in guys,no need to worry.

it has been said in live streams and such that the game focuses on PvE.

if you want to PvP you can join the instance deathmatch maps they have mentioned, or queue up for shadow war which is overlaid on the game's environment.

if you have not queued up for either of these you can not be killed by another player. you can however watch a shadow war, or so they are claiming, even if you are not in it, simply by being in the area.

long and short of it is no need to worry at all...

the whole world where you mission, ark fall, cruise around in your sweet ride, is pure pve. no player can fight another.

theres 2 types of pvp, 1 is your bog standard pvp arena based combat, ie 1 team fights another team for capture points etc etc.

the second (and one your refuring to ) is shadow war. basically randomly areas of the map become highlighted where players can run in flag themselves and join a huge (96 players) fight bf conquest style. this does scale depending on the amount of players, ie if its 5 vs 5 theres only 1 point, if its 48 vs 48 theres around 7 i think they said.

now if you want to mission in the area carry on as normal, infact you can see the other players carry out there shadow war without ever having to join in. they cant effect you, and visa versa. if you want in, all you do is click your heals togther 3 times and off you fight.

It sounds great, at least to me. I'll likely PvP, I mean, I've effectively been PvPing in UT and CS for about 14 years, but I like the playing field to be even.

Unfortunatly because of people such as yourself. There not giving us any kind of open world pvp that you don't have to keep opting into. While I understand your concerns I am still a little upset there is not any kind of option for those of us that do want it. A open pvp area, clan wars or faction wars is really make it or break it for my clan of 60 plus mmo pvpers. So right now its looking like a no go for them to come play with me. Guess it looks like were waiting for arch age.

Out of 60 people in your clan you'll probably only have 45 on at the max
