Right, because GameStop isn't notorious for doing that very thing with the vast majority of games. Right.

Lots of people buy directly from the company that produces it, it's pretty common with pc software, especially when it's easy digital downloads.

as you admit, no retailer will take back opened software, and why should trion? yes, there are a few bugs, but they're working those out. the only problem here is that you've been inconvenienced, and there will likely be some sort of compensation when the first major patch goes live.

remember that your recent purchase isn't a one-time, complete game. the game is constantly being updated with FREE content and new/enhanced features. what you purchased will always be in a constant state of improvement. just be patient.
This. Says it all. Case closed

no, it's basic economics. gamestop doesn't give you money back based on the quality of the game as you sigested, they give it based their own loss limitation/recovery figures.
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.

RDR was one of the best games of the past console generation, but it's online mode most certainly didn't have more content than Defiance.

Manufacturers make deals with retailers, they sell them the products at cost low enough to make resale profitable and the retailer handles things like support and returns. For example, you don't go back to the manufacturer when your new car stops running, you go to the dealer you bought it from. You don't go to Microsoft when Windows crashes on your new Dell PC, you go back to Dell.

Same thing applies here, contact the seller for the refund.

yes, i also read where he successfully logged in on the first day. the servers have not been down for a week, and it's barely been a week since the servers went live to begin with.

I managed to log in the first day but hadn't managed to since then due to server errors and updates. I requested a refund and was told that I had to return my opened game to the retailer. Granted, no retailer takes any opened game back. I understand the retailer side on this one because the product they sold was functioning, but there needs to be some flex room on the server side. When a company puts out a product that clearly was not working (even if only in select cases) there needs to be a refund policy. I wanted a game I could enjoy in the evenings and unwind but I found myself playing Fifa after spending 30 mins of logging in and waiting to get online to always get the Service is Down screen.

I was told that since I had not purchased it directly from Trion Worlds (honestly, who buys their games from the companies?) there could be no refund. So they would get to keep the cash for a game I could not play.

I understand this is going to be jumped on by people who will say the same thing about it being an MMO and you have to wait, but I didn't buy a game and install it before the servers came online to get 4 hours of gameplay the first day and no more for the next week.

Just let it be known that if the servers go down for weeks or if something goes wrong it will be Trion's practice to say it was your fault for being excited about the game.
I don't usually get snarky, but bolded comment is bullshtako.

Have you even LOOKED at http://community.defiance.com ?

They're bending over backwards trying to get this resolved, have plans on extending and making up for the down time people have experienced. Have been more transparent than ANY Game Developer has been about the issues they are experiencing.

Quite being a whiney ****, try to log in again, and try enjoy the damn game.

    ALL MMO's have LAUNCH issues.

You won't get your money back. Sorry about that, but be an informed consumer, not a mass consumer.

You aren't the only one having the issues, but at this point, most of the problems you experienced on Launch day have been tweaked and fixed up quite a bit, and you're now in the minority of people who can't play, because Trion has been working with Microsoft on the XBox server issues. It's not all on Trion, but also M$ and their hoops that they make companies jump through.

Gads I hate consumers like you.

haha semantics. alright, if a game is crap, it isn't going to sell, meaning they wont make money off it. If a game is great, it's in high demand and they can't keep it on the shelves. therefore, they will pay you more for a high quality game because everyone wants it. typically for the first month after a big release, gamestop will offer you 40$ because they know lots of people want it used and they can sell it for 55$. But if a game does terribly, they know no one will buy it, and they offer you a lesser price.

It is based on quality to a degree because that dictates supply and demand.

    also the word is suggested**

if you want a refund, you go to the retailer. if you need technical assistance, you go to the manufacturer in most cases. if the product is not working correctly, you go to the retailer if it was a recent purchase, if not, the manufacturer generally deals with it beyond the first month, depending on the manufacturer and what the product is
