For those who think the show will fail, but hope it doesn't...

I've decided to attempt to put a little confidence in the people eagerly awaiting next week's premier. I've literally read Hundreds of comments suggesting the show will fail and the game will be pulled under with it. I've come up with a few Shows that would like to challenge your lack of faith. Shows that aired their season 1 ads and people thought they didn't stand a chance in hell, but they went on to do pretty well...

JAG spin off called NCIS? 10 Seasons we're up to, and it's still going strong. A spin off of a spin off? NCIS LA is currently airing it's 4th Season.

Sometimes shows are made out of remakes or loose adaptations. Haven is such a show. The reviews of the first few episodes were so mixed people said 2 seasons tops. Last November it was cleared to film season number 4.

A cash in of the Superman Franchise starring Teenage Superman called Smallville? Never last they said. 10 seasons later...

Some shows are tipped to fail so quickly that it's unfair. Both Burn Notice and Human target might have things to say about that.

Sometimes a show is so equally loved and hated that people consider it a failure. But if it it runs for 5 full seasons, how can it possibly be a failure? Both Farscape and Stargate Atlantis will testify to that.

A show that modernizes classic literature with a famous namesake and brings it into the current year? Disaster waiting to happen. Sherlock...

One last one from me. A show about counter terrorism just 2 months after a horrible attack on America? That's in such bad taste it's bound to be hated by all! After 8 seasons, dozens of awards, and being declared one of the best television shows of all time, 24 is set for a feature length film to be shot this year and released in 2014 or 2015.

I love the Film and Television world, and I could literally go on for pages about the times a show proved doubters wrong. If you're reading this thinking "but those are much bigger shows than Defiance" they weren't when they started. Bigger budgets maybe, but a show starts on equal footing. I hope I eased a few doubts about the potential of the show. Yes, it could be a disappointment, but you should never write off a show no matter what the concept. Even serial killing, right Dexter?

I really hope it does well, but SyFy doesn't have the greatest record for keeping good shows.

Case in point, got rid of Caprica and Stargate Universe for wrestling...
It puts the lotion on its skin...

Stargate Universe wasn't a Syfy Show was it? They aired it through Sky over here. To be fair, Syfy has a lot of lower budget shows that try really hard. Most it's less than professional rep cones from the movies it promotes. Sharktopus? Two Headed Shark Attack? Super Shark? Mega something v Mutant something else? These films do nothing to help the reputation of the Syfy channel. Entertainingly stupid as they are.

Caprica wasn't that good. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good.

SGU was bad. Sure, it had Robert Carlyle, but it was soooo damn depressing.

    Syfy has nurtured GREAT shows.

    Being Human
    Eureka
    Haven
    BSG
    Farscape

They've too much money and tie-in's invested in this show not to give it at least 3 Seasons.

Fox was Firefly, and they screwed it up. Episodes out of order, bad marketing, and a plain executive distaste for the product.

Terra Nova was just plain bad, crap writing.

Hope = A prefered outcome without taking the action to see it through.

    All we can do..
    Play the game...
    Tell our friends...
    watch the show...
What will you be doing next Monday?
Go to San Degio! COMICCON!& E3!
    & Make voices heard

I should go door to door with an universal remote and changing random strangers TV to Syfy...I wonder if I'll make it to the end of the block. *chuckles*
