Y would making a gun do impressive dmg and holy **** heals be a good idea? So everyone can run around with a bmg and be invincible.....
Its a support gun nothing more.so treat it as such.
While most of us probably have different play styles and I have yet to use the BMG in competitive maps, so far I use this weapon all of the time. This is what I used to beat the Nim guy as well. I think if it had more features it would be too overpowered. Where it is now it takes out a modest amount of damage, slowly over time, without even really needing to aim. It doesn't need bullets and reloads its charge fairly quickly. In my opinion, perhaps more links can be added (to heal more shields at once), but it doesn't need empowered any more than it is. I could survive most battles with just this one weapon alone.
Being a "support" weapon shouldn't, in my opinion, translate to the weapon only being useful in very specific situations - and never perform on par with any other weapon or shield in any situation.
By no means do I suggest the damage or heal rate is upped to "impressive" heigths, but as it stands it's outshined by every other weapon in nearly every area.
The damage over time and "lack of aim required" is filled by the Infector.
Tight area damage is done better with shotguns, detonators and rocket launchers.
Regen is done better with nearly every shield, and tanking for the relative short duration most fights take is done better by high-hp shields.
And ammo - in my experience - is so plentiful that the "no ammo" argument doesn't justify the drawbacks compared to other weapons.
The suggestion I posted earlier makes it tactical as well as supportive in nature.
You have the ability to do higher damage and heal more per charge-%, but it requires you to overload the weapon - either risking triggering a "reload", increasing your natural reload, and/or choose between immediately damaging or healing a target, or gamble that the enemy won't do enough damage, or the friendly will survive long enough, for you to charge up and release a stronger beam.
In PvE the gun can then be used more on par with other weapons, seeing as engagements are predictable, and the user can more reliably overload the weapon. If the team you're with is performing badly and get overrun, you'll either have to do "emergency, low-level healing/damaging", or keeping an eye on your overload to avoid it overloading completely.
In PvP the engagements are less predictable, and the ability to deal a good amount of damage, or heal a good amount health, is offset by the natural delay imposed by having to overload the weapon when you need to.
Overall, it makes the weapon something that needs forethought to use effectively, and rewards the player who can use it in all situations to its greatest effect while minimizing the risk or time-delay the overload mechanic carries with it, making the weapon something that requires a modicum of skill to use, as opposed to blindly firing into a crowd.
<Insert clever/witty comment here.>
I just feel it doesn't heal enough to be truly support. It's so weak, even fully upgraded, that it's nearly a waste of time. And for people like me who prefer to support the group rather than run in guns a blazin' it's just a bit of a let down. I just want more support ability. If that means I sacrifice all of my dmg for bigger heals, I'll take it.
And I do pvp with the bmg and co-ops. I still feel it's a nice heal, but not nearly enough to save someone from death like it could be.
Mad Love <3
How the heck are people going through the game with this thing? I seriously don't understand how anyone could possibly think that its viable when every single kill takes five to ten times longer than with any other weapon.
I agree that the guns heals should be upped and give the player the ability to out heal the incoming dmg, but nobody really specs for dmg reduction do they? Decoy for example..... is your "tank" spec, so when you think about it we are all using the only heal in the game trying to keep scouts up. It can be done but its hard to maintain. I think the gun performs the way its designed and if you use it right can save your ***
My suggestion actually doesn't even say it should do better damage than other weapons, just that doing damage with it should be a requirement for healing instead of an alternative that doesn't have any reason to exist. That way standing in front of a bunch of enemies plucking away at them with a slow weapon while taking tons of damage actually makes some sense, because you can use the charge to restore your health quickly, rather than depleting the charge and your health because you aren't killing fast enough.
At any rate, this thing needs an overhaul, it's just an awful weapon right now. In over 40 hours in this game I have never actually seen a single person use it as their main weapon. Even I haven't been able to get myself to use it as the main weapon, and the BMG was the gun I was most excited for and wanted to use coming into this game.
As someone who uses the BMG as a main weapon I find it's not all that bad, it does talk a bit longer to kill but if you are good at it you can hit the crit points on every type of mob pretty easily.
