I get it now - the difference between the lovers and the haters

What I see here reflected on the forums is simple:

The people who generally like/love the game are not the types that typically "rush to endgame" and feel that the "real game" in most MMOs is the gear/skill progression from doing endgame content.

The people who generally dislike/hate the game are the typical "leets" or "locusts" who derive enjoyment from rushing to endgame as quickly as possible and being the first to rocket up through the gear progression towards legendaries, epics, and obvious power-differential that distinguishes them from the mass of more casual and less-leet players.

Here's the clue stick for everyone: Defiance has no end game. Or at least not in the typical sense. The entire game is end-game, in one respect. And what little "end game" there might be will come in the form on ongoing DLC and new episodic tie-ins with the TV show.

The people who generally explore and enjoy the journey are quite happy over all with this game. People who generally classify themselves as "casual" or "hard-core casual" players are quite happy overall with this game.

The people who are (in large part) extremely goal-oriented (and perhaps conditioned by the modern post-standardized testing era of education to cram and check off boxes and cram for the next goal) are quite dissatisfied overall with this game.

There ya go. Not a value judgement against either camp; just some pop sociology and pop psychology observations.

I'm very much a progression oriented person, and I very much enjoy gear grinding and the bonuses that are associated with it. I still like this game very much. I'm almost 1100 EGO, and have been done with all quests for some 300 EGO.

    I'm a special snowflake dammit.

OP hit the nail on the proverbial head.

    Your summation is spot on.

I had to lol at this. Couldn't agree more.

Now the sorry excuse for an education system that we have in this country is effecting my casual gaming experience.

    I must be special..

I'm definitely a content locust, finished all missions, side quests and challenges on gold in 3 days.
After that i was like.. This is it? wow .. This is crap.

But a day or two passed and i started exploring the pursuits and now I'm back and staying for the long haul
Very much doubt I'll finish the current pursuits before the 15th

TLDR: Hated the game after 3 days, love it after 5

( On a sidenote: I'm willing to bet that if the interface was better and Pursuits where more "Obvious" it would get rid of a good portion of the content complaints )

Well I mostly agree with you, except I really don't think there is an end game yet. Trion is not a rookie mmo company and I think that they will be adding end game content in the near future. I mean there has to be something in those 5 DLC's right?

Sometimes I think to myself I'd really hate this game if I hated having fun.

I love this game, an yes I search an find all info on how to play my role, no matter what type of mmo I play, and if I can, I brake what I know down into laymen terms, or find ppl that care enough to teach other newbies what it is that is needed to do so. Or show them where to look for themselves. we are all special snoflakes cfS but anywho, great post an thanks
