Agreed. I just posted in another thread that at times I feel like I game excessively, but I have lots left to do in Defiance. It makes me wonder about the gaming habits of people who say they've done it all and are bored already. The game has technical issues which are perfectly fine to complain about to a certain extent, even given the "It's an MMO, give it time." logic, but content wise I feel like Defiance has more to do than most games. I'm loving it.

Really this is nothing new whatsoever. In nearly every MMO I've ever played there are those who spend the first week rushing to be the first to hit endgame and then look surprised that there's nothing there yet. And then they come to the forums and whine about it. But to be fair, nearly every Developer of an MMO severely underestimates how fast these people will hit the nonexistant endgame, and figure they have time after launch to get it rolling.

Personally this isn't my first rodeo...er MMO and hence I know better than to do the endgame rush. I know whats there. Fortunately I've always been one of those people who enjoys the journey more than the destination. So I'm taking my time and enjoying myself.

The people who generally dislike/hate the game are the typical "leets" or "locusts" who derive enjoyment from rushing to endgame as quickly as possible and being the first to rocket up through the gear progression towards legendaries, epics, and obvious power-differential that distinguishes them from the mass of more casual and less-leet players.

Here's the clue stick for everyone: Defiance has no end game. Or at least not in the typical sense. The entire game is end-game, in one respect. And what little "end game" there might be will come in the form on ongoing DLC and new episodic tie-ins with the TV show.

The people who generally explore and enjoy the journey are quite happy over all with this game. People who generally classify themselves as "casual" or "hard-core casual" players are quite happy overall with this game.

The people who are (in large part) extremely goal-oriented (and perhaps conditioned by the modern post-standardized testing era of education to cram and check off boxes and cram for the next goal) are quite dissatisfied overall with this game.

There ya go. Not a value judgement against either camp; just some pop sociology and pop psychology observations.

I have noticed a similar phenomenon is my gaming experience with Defiance as well. I was sketchy with it the first couple days I played, but the more and more I played I learned to really enjoy it.

I have to agree here, I have been both hardcore and casual in terms of playing MMO's, and for this one I am definitely playing as a casual...I can see how infuriating it would be for hardcore players...as there isn't a ton to do once content has been ground through. It's a fun game, and no sub makes it worth it for me.

Oh look, it's this topic again.
I used to be an eager Ark Hunter like you, then i took a "soon" to the ear.

I feel the need to chime in. I have finished every mission and am ego ~1050. I would class my self as your described "leets" or "locusts" as far as how fast I got things done and am getting oranges. I will disagree heavily about your fairly black and white assumption. There are plenty of people who are casuals who hate this and vice versa.

One thing that I do agree with, is that people don't understand this game doesn't really have an "endgame" so to speak.

Or, the people that have had more time to play the game have more experience on what the game has to offer and it falls flat on its face on every avenue you attempt to find.

The thing is, when the "casuals" catch up you'll be spouting the same stuff as the "negative" people have been for the past few days. Have you ever considered that?

Games that release with 2-3 days worth of content on an open world game all die very quickly - do you get that as well ? or just want to ignore it because you are still plodding along with the game still?

What happens in a week or two (because it will only take that long) for everyone to be done with the content? you see the TV series and such as enough? the Pursuits say "SEASON ONE" not "EPISODE ONE" so the amount they can add is going to be so little, a few "episode missions" is not major content. I expect the content they release with it will be at max an hours worth of play to go along with the mission for next weeks episode..

Its really sad when people are so single minded and negative towards people with genuine concerns about a game they LIKE AND ENJOY but won't stay around if massive glaring issues don't get resolved. Stay in your bubble and see a game you like and enjoy follow in the footsteps of Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa and lets face it.. Rift..

    This. A thousand times, this.

Do people just not play games for fun anymore? I understand "content locusts" to a degree, I don't have a problem with it. It's the ones who deliberately blitz through everything a new MMO has to offer and then loudly announce their dissatisfaction to the world afterward. Like... it's a mix of bragging and complaining. Compragging, maybe. Bragplaining? Idk.

I personally enjoy ripping through the post-apocalyptic Bay area in a muscle car, splattering monstrous bug guts on the windshield, shooting guys in the face, running at Vampire Speed™. That's enough for me. The fact that it isn't impeded by a steep vertical progression climb is only a benefit to me. I respect that some people like that, but it's never made sense to me personally. All I really care about is a big world to explore and lots of action. Vertical progression has always felt stifling and claustrophobic to me.
