Like, the character's history is that he's one of the Defiant Few and all, a war hero, but when I first saw him I thought, "Wow, this actor is terrible. There's nothing even vaguely soldier-like about him. If anything, he seems like some kind of shady con man."

Well, sure enough, there's Nolan playing my ark hunter for a chump and pulling off some sweet sleight-of-hand. Lying through his teeth while acting all sincere and sentimental. So, -hopefully-, those kinds of things are intentional. Time will tell.

I can take that leap of faith, I mean he survived somehow. He is no Torc or Cooper.

I betcha a thousand scrip we find out Nolan was responsible for the holocaust. Somehow he got ahold of a terra spire on the ground, thought it would be a good idea to fire it at the ships in orbit..... and as Ivanova would say *BIG BOOM*

I am beginning to think he pulled a Mike Donovan. snuck onto one of their big ships, found a terra spire, tried to crash their network...POW.

OOOHHHHHH.... That makes sense. Because I was wondering why the hell he was going from San Francisco ALL THE WAY to Saint Louis.

Because the gem to open the terra-spire was in Frisco, and the prize was in St. Louis.

I believe that he was just opportunistic and basically running from Varus/San Fransisco.

The arkfall just happened to be in his path. They've probably seen other damaged terraspires before as well. One working Terraspire is also not likely to be able to "fix" the world, but 3 million in scrip can definately fix his world. >.< I guess we will see what type of person he is over the course of the show.

then i suggest you quit whinning about it and go get your money back so you can have the funds for popcorn while you make yourself happier watching the tv show

If you paid any attention to the story in the game and ,have either finished the story in the game or got far enough, Nolan was part of the Defiant few, who facing overwhelming odds and wanted to end the war fired the terraspire.
    .
Joshua Nolan is a war veteran and ex-grifter who turned over a new leaf in life to become the current chief Lawkeeper of Defiance. He is a survivor of the Battle of Defiance where he stood alongside his military buddy, Jon Cooper.

So his lack of surprise is not a surprise to me, neither was his sleight of hand with the valuable gem!

Hope this helps fill the 'hole' and I apologize if this seems aggressive it's not.

    Thanks for reading!

They didn't have a core to use and were more interested in the terrasphere than the spire itself, as they could not carry the spire away.

Considering the amount of gear I can carry...and that he should have gotten a ridiculous amount of XP (even shared) from the Battle of Defiance, he should have been able to pocket the whole spire with room to spare for the rest of the ark.
