One of the things I've noticed about Nolan so far, and it actually makes me curious about the show, is that some of the stuff that seems like weird omissions or acting failures are potentially deliberate reveals. Like, the character's history is that he's one of the Defiant Few and all, a war hero, but when I first saw him I thought, "Wow, this actor is terrible. There's nothing even vaguely soldier-like about him. If anything, he seems like some kind of shady con man."
Well, sure enough, there's Nolan playing my ark hunter for a chump and pulling off some sweet sleight-of-hand. Lying through his teeth while acting all sincere and sentimental. So, -hopefully-, those kinds of things are intentional. Time will tell.
