I have not seen a single person speak - am I missing something?

I've been playing this game for a good 15 hours, and I haven't seen anyone type a single thing. Is my chat not working, or is this simply the case with Defiance, people not socializing at all?

make sure your chat is on "area", and it just depends on what time of the day, some are peak hours that people will be on, fewer people, and there will be fewer chats, more people and someone will say something, I've been grouped a lot just from people talking in chat and asking for group ups

This is one of my main problems with the game. I want to socialize, but it was so hard to figure out how to work the chat followed by the fact that it just takes you out of the game. I wish I could just hot key dpad left to the virtual keyboard. Maybe that would get more people talking....

+1...... I wish you could just dpad and start typing in the little box as they do on PC

Keep in mind that it is a pain to text with a controller, so most tend not to bother.

In Party's though, you can just plug in a headset and speak with people, much more easily.

Grab any USB keyboard from a computer plug it into the PS3 then all u got to do is hit enter and start typing makes life easy for chat

Yeahhhhh...I know the feeling. Not many people chatting in this game lol I try to chat every now and then, but I feel like I'm talking to myself at times haha..

People should just invest in a cheap bluetooth headset from the local 7-Eleven or gas station. D-Pad typing stinks. And most PS3 users won't bother with a keyboard. I haven't had any problems with Group Chat.

Nah me and my groups members always use our headsets. Very rare I've seen anyone use area chat

I found myself at the same lose as far as chating with the PS3 controler by the time i typed something out the person would be gone lol... so i found myself at walmart the next day buying the lowest priced Wireless keyboard so i could at least talk to ppl and you know what for $25 it was probly the best thing i could have done for this game bc if your not grouped your mic is useless but when in a group i found my mic to be more usefull then my keyboard even if the other group members dont have mics they can still atleast hear me... so i mean it workes out but they should have put on the back of the game "Some game requirements" Mic/wifi keyboard"...
