I've been having fun messing around with a BMG today. They're actually not bad weapons even unmodded.

I keep a LMG in my secondary slot and an AR as primary

When going up against a big bad, ill empty the saw clip then switch to my assault rifle.

I have the perk that auto reloads the secondary weapon every 3 seconds, so if the second assault with my AR doesn't finish, ill just switch back to my LMG. Very easy way to take down armored hellbugs and hulkers.

This tactic will solo a monarch in about 40 seconds

I been running BMG but I been though a few of them as I am trying to get rank 10 in it, seems that even from alpha and now the BMG is the gun I like to rank first due to it always feels like its the slowest to rank up. ( note I said feels like in no way do or can I prove it is. )

As for prefered for me and ussaly in shooter games its just about any weapon I can be moble with such as smg's shotguns, AR's ( some are pretty mobile ) and pistols. I hate burst fire guns and try to avoid them at all costs I can regulate my gunfire myself and do not need those 2 or more bullet fire burst I mean what if I only need one more bullet to kill something the rest of the burst is just wasting my ammo.

Man, you must have to hit an ammo dump after every encounter.

Most folks I talk to, and myself as well, find that sniping in pvp is ridiculously easy.
The aim accuracy with a sniper is off, whether it be a latency issue, a hit box issue, or maybe they've added a variance in accuracy when zoomed in, but I can have my reticle lined up on someone's face and miss. And other times I hit someone in the head when I wasn't even aiming at the head. So go figure. I don't know if you're on a console or PC, but I'm playing on a PC and the scoped accuracy is known to be flawed.

I have an issue with this too. I only snipe when I have a big target

Pulser SMG's are my favorite. Extremely high rate of fire combined with large clips and almost instant reloads, and it they work perfectly on the move.

Machine pistols are excellent, too, but slower reload, smaller clips, and small ammo reserve for a full-auto weapon reduces their usefulness dramatically.

I use an Assault Rifle with shock and no mods and still always near the top of the charts during arkfalls or instances.

I've the very same problem. In PvE, it seems to be an issue with the mob type. Never had any problems getting headshots on mutants and raiders, but 99ers and dark matter are kinda strange. Just like you described: I aim right at the middle of their face, some times it results in a regular hit but most times the shot completely misses the target. Don't think it's latency, I've had PvE mobs standing still while I fired 3 shots at their head just to have the 4th shot aimed at their upper torso land a crit.

As for favorite weapons: in the earlier areas I killed most enemies with bolt action snipers, but due to above mentioned behavior, I've moved on to LMGs. The FRC Saw is an obvious favorite of most LMG users, it's just a pretty cool gun. And with a rank 3 blue scope on top it takes care of most of my 'sniping' needs, too - the range is completely sufficient for most uses.
Another LMG that I didn't like initially, but grown very fond of is the Disruptor. It fires very precise bursts of 3 with a medium interval time, so probably not the best DPS weapon, but the bursts are very good for taking down regular sized mobs.

My second weapon slot is currently unoccupied, or rather taken by whatever I'm trying to get the pursuit for. Right now I'm headed for Detonators 5, but their use is very situational in PvE... most of the time I'm way better of with my LMGs.
