after getting used to the mod system (upgrade path, specifically, not the UI, which I still find cumbersome) in D-13, I wasn't happy with the D2050 method. I suppose the D2050 idea now is that your weapon is good up to a certain point, then you need to ditch it for better things, rather than continuously upgrading the favorite weapon, unless I have misinterpreted the intent.

I'm assuming Defiance will remain running for years to come, it may even become sentient with the programming being left all alone with just itself for company creating the impetus for it's evolution... after all the players have long ago given up due to it's continued lag and disconnect issues. Hmm... wonder what it will think of the Apocalypse? Will it want to make it stronger and more effective only to have no real testing ground to see how much fun it is...? Hmmm... how many milliseconds will it take to arrive at an optimal solution?
    From the movie Wargames,
"The only winning move is not to play."

It would be interesting if they went open source on D13, let a fan team take over development and maintenance. Not likely but it could be very interesting.

That's how d13 started. It took a while for Trion to let people just upgrade weapons continuously. I expect the same thing will happen with 2050—they'll add in features from d13 and call it new.
