Right now if you start a time trial it uses a different version of vehicle handling that is incredibly stiff. If you kill yourself during a race while looking at the map some times if you restart the race while downed wait for for the race to start and then self revive you can spawn a new one with the new improved controls but this does not work 100% of the time.
