Prototype re-buy WTF... 244 lower than current Power

Yes. I spent 50 caeruleum cores to obtain an OLD prototype I sold off days ago... to get one 244 lower than my maximum Power if I equip my 4 highest rated items.

I'm 2841 equiping my highest 4 items, and the repurchased prototype is 2597.

If I have enough (I have a lot, just no clue at that power rating how many blue salvage will be required) I'd have to max rank the item for a net improvement of 6. Sure, I'd get to use the prototype at (hopefully) my current level... but it's going to grow old, quickly, without any ability to improve it further to keep up for a little while.

Given I picked the currently broken Bonesaw, I was doing this exclusively to try to elevate my 'Potential Power'... but that's not going to happen. 6 points divided by 4 items... is... diddly squat. There's no point in even wasting all the salvage now. Or anything much with the Bonesaw.

How is a rating on a prototype re-purchase this low even allowable?... even Possible in the first place?

I saw in chat someone saying they got one that was 500 points lower.

Since prototypes can be upgraded +250 PL, and since you can buy coreleum cores and salvage with real money, they did this to prevent people from buying cores and salvage and boosting infinitely.

Yes, this easily could be possible. There is an ORDER to get re-purchasing to work right.

First you MUST vendor or dismantle your prior prototype... or what you buy will be the Exact same rating as what you had before. I suspect what that person did, was just that. I already knew about that issue from a mention in a livestream and a friend in 2050 finding this out the hard way on his first re-buy.

Get THAT information out to your server, and your friends.

I did the repurchase correctly and still got hosed. That's my reason for this post.

Yes, perhaps, but the dev's have also stated on the livestream that you are supposed to get it NEAR your current power. 244 lower is not NEAR. Not in terms of 2800 rating salvage costs, and I'll only become steeper the closer you get to the end of each different 1000-1999, 2000-2999, etc... range.

Maybe. They could have just solved the problem entirely by making it so that real money could not purchase cores, and then grinding for those cores would release a current level prototype as if it was a drop.

Nothing they could currently do to fix it would prevent a pay to win scenario (though you could argue salvage is p2w to begin with).

Maybe they do it so that when you are at 5000 (max power rating), each prototype you recreate will be at 5000 when fully upgraded which means that they have to be some levels lower than your current power rating when recreated.

Imagine that if a recreated prototype exactly follows your current PR, then it means at 5k PR you can recreate a proto and upgrade it so the weapon itself will have more than 5k PR. Rinse and repeat and you can increase your PR beyond 5k.

I don't think that's the reason, they could just put a cap on it like in old Defiance. Can't go past 6K even if the weapon's base level was at 5991 for example.

Anywho, the info in this thread makes me sad. Looks like I'll be putting off getting the pursuit prototypes for a while....

Yup, I know that sucks. I finally got to 2300 and bought the Rocket Launcher from the prototype vendor and it was 300 below my current power rating. It was a total waste of my cores. I salvaged it and only got 2 blue salvage from it. What a shame.

They should just go ahead and copy Destiny a little more by letting prototypes absorb higher PR weapons of the same category to raise the PR of the prototype, I guess it could include a caeruleum core cost to absorb weapons since their goal is to get us buying those..
