My 2 Cents Worth
I have been a Defiance fan since the tv show on the Sci-Fi channel, which I hated to see canceled after only 3 seasons (maybe a comeback as a series on Hulu or Netfllix?) When the original game came out, I was ecstatic and began playing right away. I only stopped because my PC was beginning to overheat so bad I couldn't play anything anymore without it shutting down on me, and so I began gaming on the Xbox One instead.
Fast forward to now, with Defiance being available on Xbox One, I was excited to once again be able to play the game. Today, I see issues about the game I dislike more so than what I did on PC. Since my time playing on PC was so short lived, I didn't pay much attention to all the things I do now that it's on console. For instance:
1) The major issue, of course, is getting randomly booted out of the game and back to the home screen. This is especially a problem when in the middle of a mission, and I have to do the entire mission all over again. In the middle of Arkfalls or other group events, though similarly aggravating, at least there's a change to get back to it before it ends and still get credit for it.
2) Speaking of Arkfalls, I don't like how we have to have Ark Keys to claim the chest afterwards (when and if I'm able to complete one without getting booted). During one major Arkfall, I had fought my *** off killing hellbugs, dying several times, and being booted a couple times, just to finally beat the huge boss at the end, when low and behold to my surprise, I couldn't open the chest at the end to claim my reward for all the hassle I'd just gone through to get it. It was like being kicked in the balls. On the PC, I never really did Arkfalls, not cause of any issue with them, but because I was more interested in the main story, so I never knew we were required to have Ark Keys for the major ones. Imagine my surprise when I Googled how to get Ark Keys only to find out they had to be bought with real money. That was like a punch in the gut along with the pain of the kick to the balls. Anyway, long story short, to deny players their reward after these grueling events isn't right. I think players should be rewarded an Ark Key after every major Arkfall so that ALL can claim the reward they so rightfully earned in a battle they die in multiple times, struggle to keep their ammo full, or to have to race back when and if they get booted in order to get credit for it. There are other things to purchase with real money that would more than make up for the Ark Keys, so why deny players a justified reward for such a major task? By the way, I do know about contracts at EGO level 50 that offer Ark Keys as a reward for completing them, but this doesn't help lower level players who help complete major Arkfalls getting no reward afterwards.
The next few issues are just minor annoyances that can be dealt with, but I personally wish would be changed.
1) I never liked how our characters are not centered on the screen. It kindda feels awkward, like our character's center of gravity is off and we're not able to walk straight. Because of this, the left portion of the screen is somewhat cut off, and we can't always see what's coming up on our left side. It's aggravating, but can be dealt with after some time getting used to it, but an option to center our characters wouldn't hurt either.
2) I don't like how we can't buy individual upgrades for our weapons, and instead we have to buy caches and hope we get a part we don't have. I have bought so many caches only to get 2 or more sights, barrels, magazines, etc., for the same weapon. This wastes so much scrip, and the rewards for missions are barely rewarding enough to help with this. The only hope is to get enough item drops to sell to make enough scrip to, at at the very least, break even after buying upgrades. This too is annoying, but can be dealt with, but still, being able to buy upgrades individually would be so much more helpful to everyone.
3) Speaking of purchasing, why can't we see the stats of weapons when we try to purchase them? It's a guessing game as to whether or not the gun for sell is better than the gun we have equipped, and because of this, buying weapons isn't worth the risk. I did notice the option to Cycle Comparison, but it doesn't work, at least not for me. When I press right on the D-pad to do so, nothing happens. So I dunno if this is a bug that needs fixed, or if it was intentionally set up so that we can't view the stats of weapons for sell. This can be dealt with as sometimes we're lucky enough to find better weapons as drops, but this could so use a fix.
4) Salvage. Come on, allow us to sell salvage. Carrying around so much salvage is ridiculous when most people only carry around one or two of each weapon type, if that. I currently have so much salvage on my character that I'm surprised he doesn't sink in water. Let us sell the salvage for some scrip. This would also somewhat alleviate low level players who don't get rewarded with claim to the chest after major Arkfalls by giving them salvage to sell for some scrip.
Right now, the above are the only things I can think of that I feel could use a change. While there are probably more issues, I'll just leave it at that for now. I do enjoy this game a lot. Defiance was one of my favorite shows when it was on, and I own the first 2 seasons on DvD (still need to find season 3) so I can watch the show anytime I want. The game has so much potential, and I would like to see it become more accommodating for everyone, and I hope it becomes a favorite for everyone who plays it. I'd love to see the show come back and expand the world of Defiance as well as the story of its people (plus I'd like to know what happened to Nolan after he went into space). In the meantime, I'll enjoy sinking myself into the world via the game as best as I can when I'm not getting booted out.
