Just to chime in with the others

I would never suggest that 'Steam' is the only route for people to play Defiance on PC ... I know plenty of players use Glyph, that is what I use .

But Trion doesn't publish their data, graphs, stats etc for Glyph as far as I know. It would be great to see how it compares with Steam and how the two regions (NA and EU) compare also.

So ... we have to work with whatever we have. I would say the Steam charts are an indicator. They don't give us the full picture, but they are an indicator, like a person's blood pressure. It doesn't tell you everything about a person's health, but if it drops to zero, there might be a slight problem .

The Steam charts show trends. In the past, when TV networks tried to assess viewer figures ... they only had access to a small percentage of the population and they extrapolated from that. In the UK, for example, they only recruit 12,000 people out of 66 million!

With Steam, I'm sure the percentage is much higher ... it's hard to say ... but it could be close to 50% and a much better / stronger indicator (a sample size that most researchers can only dream of) than those which TV networks use to help them decide the fate of many TV shows. If the graph suddenly falls in Steam, it is a good indication that Glyph players are also dropping.

What's even more obnoxious about those posts is that they somehow assume that Trion (and other Devs where this happens) are incapable of running stats and analytics on the users in their game that are logged onto their servers to see what is going on and how many people are playing and the like...

But really, let the armchair people armchair and ignore those posts. You'll have a better time of it.

The reason why most people use Steam to estimate a games health is because its the largest digital distribution platform for PC gaming currently. It also is the only one that provides "nerd data" aka the Steam charts, hardware charts, reviews, etc etc. Sometimes companies are afraid to have their game on Steam not because of the cost but because of that "nerd data". Cause really how many people wanna play a game that has under 500 people online at any given time with no cross platform server ability. Some might enjoy it but really Defiance is supposed to be a MMO'S' (massive multiplayer online shooter) who wants to wait in a "Que" for how many mins trying to enter a PVP map, or a Co-Op.

Not to mention the ability to have create reviews and have the game be rated just like anything else you would want to purchase, do you just go and buy it without looking at any information or reviews to see if it will be a good product or reliable?

So ya people will continue to use and put value in steam to determine a games overall health.

Hmmm... wait... why does this matter? Other then the odd population of gamers that can not function without numbers, charts, tables, miniscue calculation, and percision variables on the precise moment in a raid you can take a ****. Play it, or do not play it. Is Trion written on your paycheck, providing the gaming/living environment is not the basement of the elderly and cables duct taped and spiced into a nieghbors power box ran through holes in the walls, would be the only point to this issue. These numbers mean nothing to your life short of the need to voice a moment of expendable oxygen to push a meaningless issue to simply put yourself out into the world of pointless drama to feel an acomplishment that a small percentage of simi intelligent primate or mamal may actually realize life is pointless without your numerical guidance.

Or go play Trove. A one million plus calculated base over some 475 has a far greater chance someone might care and not reach for that razor blade. And I'm on PS4 so this means spit on what steam ... Ummm... what was the point again? I forgot.

Does that mean that you rather hear what Trion says about the game's performance rather than looking at steamchart?

It's like checking the weather. News says it's sunny and 80.. stick your head out the window and it's pouring and your hair is wet. Play it and choose for yourself. Walk in knowing the Free to Play movement is hit or miss. You are already paying for your internet (maybe). You're paying for the power supplying the internet and TV and preferred gaming system (maybe). The game is free. Don't like it... Bring large stick down repeatedly and vigorously against a large dead festering carcass. Don't play it. Download new game... cry about pointless numbers and again typing out your need of attention ... rinse and repeat.

It would be far more meaningful to me, especially given this is a multi-platform (PC-Steam, PC-Glyph, Xbox, PS4) game. And, based off that interview with the CEO that was posted earlier, it's doing okay. Both Defiance 2013 and 2050 are mid-to-niche tier games, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm not married to this game, nor was I married to Defiance 2013 for that matter. I play it until I get bored and log off. I would play it longer if sieges and capture and hold were functional, but it is what it is. When they fix it, my playtime will adjust accordingly. They've said they're working on it and don't have an ETA. I don't need them to say they're working on it and don't have an ETA over and over again. Hopefully this week they will actually have more to say. Or maybe they won't.

I don't understand what you're trying to say....

When the next update goes live, I'd probably post another steamchart to see how it affects the game. You see, player retention on the original game is very bad despite numerous updates (we can only know this because of steamchart). Hopefully this game would perform better.
