Just to chime in with the others
I would never suggest that 'Steam' is the only route for people to play Defiance on PC ... I know plenty of players use Glyph, that is what I use.
But Trion doesn't publish their data, graphs, stats etc for Glyph as far as I know. It would be great to see how it compares with Steam and how the two regions (NA and EU) compare also.
So ... we have to work with whatever we have. I would say the Steam charts are an indicator. They don't give us the full picture, but they are an indicator, like a person's blood pressure. It doesn't tell you everything about a person's health, but if it drops to zero, there might be a slight problem.
The Steam charts show trends. In the past, when TV networks tried to assess viewer figures ... they only had access to a small percentage of the population and they extrapolated from that. In the UK, for example, they only recruit 12,000 people out of 66 million!
With Steam, I'm sure the percentage is much higher ... it's hard to say ... but it could be close to 50% and a much better / stronger indicator (a sample size that most researchers can only dream of) than those which TV networks use to help them decide the fate of many TV shows. If the graph suddenly falls in Steam, it is a good indication that Glyph players are also dropping.
