How do servers in this game work?

Title*, Do the work by splitting the US into different region like US East, US west like most MMOs?

If it works like so that's pretty bad since we have the Defiance community split into different consoles AND different regions and you cant pick your region so depending on the time some servers will have a low amount of players like US EAST 8AM-3PM (Right now takes forever to do anything because of the low amount of people). Will it ever be possible to at least merge console servers like a XBOX, PS-3, and PC US East, or choose what server you want to play on?

I'm only speculating here, but, based on what they've said, they probably use 2 server clusters for each platform and then everyone connects to one or the other(NA or EU). The only thing that separates us thereafter is which phase/instance/channel we happen to be in.

At one time, a very early alpha or even earlier in house testing, there were probably individual servers that you could connect to, this is relatively easy to check, the next time you get disconnected spam hit Retry to reconnect asap and you'll be pushed to a server select screen. There are no servers there and no way to back out, so you'll have to restart your client, but it's definitely there.

Ahh I hope they get that working then, it would be nice if they made this game cross platform so it would have at least a little bit more life. The fact that the game has a ingame community and clans etc, shouldn't make communications and such difficult.
