SO its not the on going beta that you get for pre- ordering, just the one time only?

That would be because there is no 'ongoing' Beta to access. There is a 24/7 Alpha test, but that has different requirements to get in.

What you get with a pre-order is access to all of the Beta events, two of which have already passed, and the third is rumored to be around the 15th of this month. There is no information as yet on anything beyond that.

You should get an email shortly before the next one. You can also check back on the Trion website, under 'Manage Games' on your account page. There should be a 'Defiance Beta' option there once they're ready for the next test, so you can agree to the EULA and download the Beta client.
