I managed to kill everything, but it won't let me do anything to the turrets. I just abandoned the mission and I'll try again later.
Yep, this quest is bugged to hell. Just restart it and clear areas over and over again like a maniac; there is no foolproof solution and they all boil down to this.
This is a fairly known spot as hundreds of people are seen daily, farming this spot for both skitterlings to work towards the 50k kill and weapon skill on the hulker.

I used that spot for BMG and detonator skill level 5. I don't intend to use it anymore ^.^.
I however wasn't gonna argue with going from 3 to 10 in little over four hours of grinding the hulker.

I posted this in another thread but my experience showed that not all mobs have to be dead. I logged out for a couple hours up the hill from the turret. When I logged back in, all the mobs spawned. I sat back while the Hulker pulled agro on all the others and they ganged up on him, and once I saw every mob attacking him, I ran to the turret and activated it and left. Quick and painless.

The quest itself is bugged. You can simply kill all that is there, walk away and go back. It will all be back and can be farmed to your mindless content. To use the turrets with no problem however. Crouch and it will make it easier. Had to do it with a computer console that bugged out too.

You keep mentioning farming. Is that the Grinder mentality? I can't possibly see myself wanting to farm for skills (Especially when it makes such a small difference) in an area like that. Utter hell! Then again I just don't farm period. Your game lasts a lot longer when you just let it all happen rather than grinding it out- contracts excluded.
