A little confused with weapon experience.

Weapons get experience I know that, but I'm a little confused when it caps.

You get a bonus feature for the weapon, but..It says you stop getting exp? Does that mean, with the xp capped weapon I can't level the weapon skill?

For example, the epic AR you get from Nolan for the episode quests, I capped it.
If I continue to use it that means I can't level the AR skill with it right?

The help menu doesn't explain this well.

If the weapon exp is capped, then you can't get weapon skill exp. Time to buy a new AR.

You've got it right, yeah. Once you cap a weapon's XP, it can't be used to increase your weapon skill anymore. There's been talk of them letting you reset a weapon's XP, no word on any ETA or if it's even still in the works.

every weapon gains EXP and ranks up. This is evident by an EXP bar below the Mod slots on every weapon. As the weapon's EXP bar fills, you also gain EXP towards the Weapon Skill.

However, each individual weapon can only rank up once. After you fill the bar, you gain no more EXP for either the weapon or the weapon skill. Because of this, you'll need to constantly switch weapons that you use.

For instance, I'm focusing on LMGs. I buy the Frontier SAW outside Happy Pow Ranch and level it up. Once filled, I sell it and purchase another one. Each weapon gains exp and levels and I gain Weapon Skill levels.

I do the same with EMC Service Rifles

Yep, there's a vendor for most weapon types. Shouldn't be too hard to keep a steady supply of cheap replacements, unless you've got really specific tastes or you're trying to replace a unique weapon.
