Probably one of the worse feelings to have in Paradise is not finishing an arkfall job. Tonight we are in San Fransisco near the Overpass. Arkhunters sensed an uneasy change in the air and just before anyone could comment on it someone shouted “Arkfall!”
We all rushed to the location only to find Dark Matter had beat us there. So naturally, we began fighting our way from the first drop through to what we all assumed would be the final battleground and our payday.
Ego had been keeping score because arkhunting is in fact, a competition. I had already accumulated just over 21k score before we reached the Monolith. There were only a handful of ark hunters. But we were holding the enemy off well spite our numbers.
Over 10 minutes had passed. The deaths were plenty. Some arkhunters ran away because they were being overpowered by the Dark Matter. Others remained because we had already come so far. Soon, that 21 k started dwindling down. 18k, 16k, now 13k. I knew time was running out but we kept fighting.
The few who remained also kept fighting, however, we failed. The Monolith was nearly destroyed. We could see it. But it’s combat ability was far greater than any other we had fought before. I am sure of it. So many rockets. Its targeting system was fixated on certain arkhunters or so it seemed. The blast from the rockets were large enough to penetrate the walls of the broken ark shell that was already scattered about.
Was a bad feeling, walking away with nothing but a couple weapons that were dropped on the ground.
