It's not like it's difficult for them to search the forums, and I did help by telling them they could do it to find the answers. I'm not their mothers or their slaves, they're big enough to look for themselves.
I really don't believe that you've never made that mistake but whatever, ignorance is bliss. And you don't have to be someone's mother or slave to attempt to help other than 'trashing' them and brushing them off.

Trashing them? All I said was to search before going on a rant. Not one insult.

I know I was just trying to make you feel bad, I failed. Listen I'm going to just stop right here, we've already derailed the thread and I feel like we could go on and on for no reason. Sorry I said anything I just hate it when people get all elitist cause other people don't know how to use a computer as good as them..

To OP and others that are having issues, make sure drivers are updated(shouldn't matter), make sure anti-virus programs are either allowing the patcher or are off during the download. And like I said run the patcher as admin, temporarily disable your windows firewall, and if the router/modem has one built in, make sure you either allow the patcher or disable it to see if that helps.

turning off windows firewall, using a free vpn like hotspot shield, have also resolved the issues for many
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.

SaintRaze, if you mean the torrent workaround I doubt it's going to help. Not only does the torrent have very few seeders but its another 10 GB bandwidth wasted if the patcher decides to restart the whole thing while patching.

As for the other solutions, yes I have tried running as admin and turning off firewall etc. In fact my problem is not about the patcher erroring out at all. It's just that if Trion puts out a patch while the game is downloading the patcher just closes the current session and starts all over again. I have experienced this behavior at least four times. It's pretty obvious from the folder names in the live/download folder. It started with 55 then there was 56 which had the same files as 55 but with different names. I could tell from the file sizes.

So yeah the bottomline here is that the patcher restarts the entire download if there is a patch in between. I'm 100% positive that you can actually resume a download as long as there is no patch (I have confirmed this). Now Trion either needs to update the patcher to first finish downloading the base files and then APPLY the patch later... you know like how most other MMOs do it or provide a separate download.

This ideally will not be an issue for those with really fast connections but some of us aren't so fortunate and quite frankly it's impossible to play the game at the moment even after paying full price for it. People have every right to be pissed. Besides workarounds are an additional hassle. When you buy a product you expect it to work.

are you sure the file you're transferring isn't being corrupted? I'm on my second download of farcry3 for this issue with their patcher

are you patching it via steam or? (don't know the difference other than the fact my friend tried to get a path a few days ago via the normal way and it was going to take hours, so he used the steam way and it patched faster) if that makes any sense.. I personally don't know anything about it since i've yet to buy a game from steam

Edit: they also want you to uninstall and delete the defiance alpha and beta folders if you haven't already since they cause issues with the retail

This is getting annoying and you guy didn't even BOTHER to put the initial software on the DVD that you sell in the retail stores!

Do you guys have a torrent I can use because honestly that would be a RELIABLE way to download your software that I paid 60 dollars for !
Speed of you connection I don't think matters much, mine is faster than 1.5mbs but my download was steady at .35 and jumped at certain places to 4-5mbs. I know a friend who has top notch internet and pays out of his but for it and got the same speeds during the download for defiance. As for the problems with it, might want to try a torrent (no guarantees on safety of it) or maybe Trion should allow you to pick up a physical disc at a local authorized game store, no CD key included or something. $60 is $60, they saved when you bought a digital edition.

    Indeed...

Personally speaking, I've had about 2 or 3 "Patch Error, please try again later"s myself and I've managed to resume my download just fine after that. I also haven't encountered the pause/resume issue that some people had that was causing their downloads to reset. The only times my downloads reset is when a new numbered folder appears in the defiance/live/download directory.

I am fairly certain this is due to a new patch being released on the servers, because off the top of my head I remember one reset occurring on April 11th, which coincides with the release of patch 1.010, according to the patch notes and server status forum. I don't remember the days my download has reset the week before, but I'll keep note of them from here on and compare them to the updates being posted in the server status forums.

I see no work around to this problem other than a torrent. And alot of the torrents I found had bad feedback.
