Well, i can refer to the latest mmo i played (gw2) and say that if i don't get the urge to log in to the game anymore, that's it for me...and that is also available for single players...if i like the game i play it and explore everything, but it reaches a point when it becomes stale and i don't feel like clicking the icon to start it anymore, and most of the time it's game over, i don't go back to it...ever...i did that with wow..i am doing that with gw2 and swtor...defiance is ok, did about most of the content (level is not that important to me) but as an example as what becomes boring to me:

GW2- i have every class lvl 80 (max) with the add that i also have 3 warriors lvl 80 (different specs)
    -Map completion 100% x3
    -Dungeon master
-Highest tier gear on 3 of my chars
-Every dynamic event completed at least once
-every playable race story completed (with alternative endings included)
-pvp close to 50% of the level cap (that is a lot considering i hate pvp in any game)

and i got bored...so...it is all a matter of perspective...some might have quit before the first char hit 80, i for one like to play every aspect of the game, and usually i stick around for the people in game, that is why inter player communication is important in an mmo, not only voice but also chat...

In my opinion, technically I feel like I've already beat the game.

And for me personally, this is the main problem with Defiance, there is no end-game content. In most good MMO's they build a solid end-game system that is meant to take months to complete. A lot of games do this in the form of raids where players basically go on "co-op missions" that are repeatable and really difficult in search of really good end game gear.

Now I'm not saying that Defiance should just copy the raid system, but Defiance does need a better end-game system, finishing up pursuits is just too boring, simple as that.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game and I'm still playing, I have played and am still playing a lot more than the average player ~ I'm currently sitting at EGO 1800.

But it has got to the point where I'm having to do tasks such as "Kill 5000 Enemies that other players have done damage to". (off topic: seriously, why is there a kill steal pursuit? lol)

I am really hoping that the first DLC comes in the form of end-game content, content that is repeatable but fun and gives the players incentive to play it often.

If the new content is just more story and side missions that are going to be completed in a day, then leave us with "EGO Cap Raised to 10,000 - new pursuit: Kill 1,000,000 Enemies" I would be extremely disappointed.

I hear ya. I bet there will be something like that eventually, if not in the first DLC.

Every MMO ends up in a grind sooner or later.
There's just no way to deliver a constant flow of content.
Especially with players who neglect the whole exploration and story aspect and boost to max level.

Doing the same raid 200 times to get your gear together is not the least more entertaining
than doing the same arkfall over and over again.

If you are not in PvP and you want story, then you'll have to wait for the DLCs.

Beating the game, at least for me, would be finishing all the story and side missions.
There's not a lot of point in upgrading weapons in Defiance unless you're looking to max out weapon skills. In addition, there's no difficult group content to work through either.

So in terms of typical MMO-ness, there's not really a lot to do.

in less words, when it becomes a grind fest with no goal...that might be the time to think of quitting

I don't know why most mmo's consider pvp to be the ultimate end game content, it is fun i guess for some people, but that also becomes repetitive and boring, and the pve people that are potential easy kills for the pvp guys quit long before the "end game"...

I am not saying wow has a great idea with daily that is actually a chore rather than fun, but i do admit the harder content is one of the best solutions, i would like a tactic based fight, not just spray and pray stile for a dungeon, at the moment it is just an unload fest...not complaining about the co-ops i find them entertaining but they are easy...i would settle for elite co-ops for 4 people (not raid stile with 25 people in it) but with a bit more tactics to it, even random encounters or switching the tactic element...take advantage of the shooter trademark....targeting based combat.

The closest tactical combat mobs (if you can call them that) are the ones that have only few hitboxes and not get damage anywhere else (see the tanker)...but i digress...the idea is that if you don't give people something to strive to achieve they will get bored...

Arkfalls for example are fun...the first few times but after that...repetitive... why not randomize them a bit...

Of course there are differences with Raids and Arkfalls...

Raiding usually unlocks at high level, meaning you have new content to play when you have already invested a lot of time into the game. They are usually difficult and require teamwork and coordination to complete, you can't solo them. You can't spam raids 24/7 usually either, so it takes a while for them to actually become repetitive.

Arkfalls you can do from Level 1, you can solo them easily and you can spam them, so they can become repetitive very fast.

I agree that if you have got to the raid-game and done the same raid like 10-20 times, it will become repetative, but this usually isn't doable within the first week of game release. That is the main purpose of end game ~ to eat up your time while you wait for DLC.

they should make the story depend on the ego rating that way people don't rush through it

That is one of the main reasons the game was finished for a lot of people in the first week...most mmo's have story, quests, map areas dependent on the level of the player thus forcing a grind, i for one like the free for all idea of defiance, where you can explore the whole map the moment you finish the tutorial, but some people see that as a game over situation...the monolith idea was cool tho, not being able to pass to san fran without doing story

Games like these are never finished. Always more content to be added. I can see new zones opening up every few months-year depending on how the Show/Story progresses.

so you're telling me that right now at this moment the game has infinite content? well great, I'd almost run out of things to do, can you please point me towards this infinite well of content, and while you're at it I'd like to know how the devs have managed to create content faster then it can be consumed.

game has a finite end, just because it'll get more in the future doesn't change the fact that every release has a finite end to the content, from now until the last release version of the game that will be true.
