This is why scoring systems like this just dont really do what they intend.

When I worked at a game retailer we went with a 0 - 6 scale because games cost up to a typical 60$. Basically used the number as an indicator on what price the game has the vest value.
Im with you on the review too. I would give the game a 7 right now. I do agree with much of what Aggry Joe had to say, but certain things I didnt agree with and I do believe his overall score was a little too low.

The problem with this review is its based heavily on BETA experiences and very little time playing live, and even then on only one platform. I was a PC beta tester, then got accepted into the PC alpha, and of course am playing on PC at live and have seen a fraction of the issues he describes or even shows.

That isn't to say I am a complete fan girl of the game .. it has flaws... broken accomplishments/pursuits (many of which worked in beta.. so broke since live) being a huge glaring one for me as they are the main thing you do after completing the season one story. The chat system is painfully laughable also and really needs a lot of work, and their customer support is horrendous.

Now all the negatives I see said some of the most common complaints of players I do believe as others have said are just flaws in perception about the basis of the game.. which is that everything that is in is all their will ever be. The game is being handed to us in chapters .. or in this case seasons. If you open your pursuits list, and read the very first pull down.. it says what? Season one. That's because as the story of the show progresses and unfolds, more and more content in the game will be delivered.

That has always been the idea of the game.. its not that they rushed out an unfinished story with limited content, that is what was intended to be shipped. A patient player (me) won't be bothered by this because you aren't paying a monthly fee and like the idea of things unfolding with the show, but a lot of players want it all now and some may not even care about the show and this leads to the complaints about how 'short' the content was after then 'won'.

Defiance is a new game, both in story and design, even when you complete season one, you've only begun in the story to come. Its going to require patience and its an ambitious idea but I suspect one that will give the game good longevity if they can stick with it and roll out the content regularly. I still say they made a mistake launching the game before the show though.

In any case at the time I post this I am ER1222 with the story finished, and working my way down the pursuit list (again the ones that can be completed *grumbles*) .. this is in fact the fourth complete play through I have done of the game having done them in beta once and alpha twice.. I'm still not bored because I don't view the game as either an MMORPG or a FPS, its a new experience. And one I am having fun with. I personally see it as like a 7.5 withheld for future re-review. But that's me.

I wouldn't get my hopes up if i were. We pointed out all of these obvious design flaws during the testing phase but they were ignored by Trion. Also, the fact this is a multiplatform release doesn't bode well on the PC version and updates in general. DC Universe Online comes to mind. That game has an UI just as horrendous as this and continues to do to this very day. That and the fact that it is an obvious console port.

That's the idiot that gushed all over GW2 in his review.

GW2 was the first online game I was glad to get a refund from the publisher for.

After his GW2 nerdgasm, he's about useless.

Lmao, horrible logic, that's like say Jar-Jar Binks was a well written character because of the massive storm of hate he received...

Unless Xbox version is not equal to the pc version of the game, half the review is wrong.
    - There is no possibility to have multiple perks build : wrong
    - All types of mobs have the same AI : wrong
    - Etc ...

Even if some true bad things are said (UI, chat for instances), the rest is basically false advertisement.

He tells it like he sees it. And it sounds like he has good reasons for feeling the way he does about it. Nothing wrong with that.

Oh don't get me wrong his voiceacting isnt bad at all, I am talking about the lines thats written for vonbach, most of them are pretty juvenile and it dosnt make me feel hate for the guy, it just makes me wonder how old the guy was writting the lines ofr this guy.

Though other then von bach the lines seem very solid, and overall great.

Okay, we'll it appears some of you:
    A. Didn't watch all or any of the review
    B. Or you did and simply lack the ability to listen, comprehend and process what was said
    Let's clear the Mis-information
    1. He NEVER played the beta, not once. Not beta 1-3 on the pc or the xbox. He could NOT get the beta patcher to load. Therefore, the people saying "His experience is entirely based of the beta" well, your incredibly wrong
    2. In fact he states multitude of times he couldn't even really play the game until 4-6 days later when trion had to personally send someone out to his house with the game on a USB drive (Trion offered with no prompting from him). He said that despite his frustration with the patcher he would give the game a fair chance, the beginning part about the patcher was to set up context for how badly something's went. *side note he received special treatment from trion without request, but still gave the a 5-6/10, yea that seems like a sell-out to me*
    3. He said there are no multiple builds for your Ego perks or powers, literally no mention of weapons or gear was mentioned in that segment, honestly listen, he doesn't even talk about the ability to make different builds for weapons, gear or shields. He was talking about inability to switch between whole sets of ego grids. As in on the fly changing between Overcharge and Cloak, sorry but currently you have respec and unlock a completely different branch of perks.
    4. He said there was his money worth in content, hes one of the few reviewers both formal or forum based to express this sentiment
    5. He pulled a random number for the episode mission, honestly is the fact he was off my 1 is that big of a deal?? He showed fotage of his character in the finial scene of the episode mission, so he definitely played it
    6. Unlike many he didn't focus on the lag or disconnect but rather the lack of a solid story that involved repetitive story mission, he also talk lengths on his views on the success/failure of the show
    7. Despite his concerns he constantly made remarks expressing how much he wants both the game and the show to succeed and become better.
    8. His review is of the game as it sits now, not the "what if defiance" in a week or a month or a year. Idk why so many people are stuck in the "oh but it'll get so much better" that in no way changes the current state the game. However; this maddenly remains a constantly regurgitated excuse used to defend it (defiance) as it is THIS moment.

I agreed he looked over some things and hasn't played the hours necessary to fully grasp all the concepts, I truly hope he revisits this game, but seriously some of you guys jump to conclusions and slam him for things "you thought he said" or blatantly just repeating what someone post before without even watching the video. The fact you can't even accurately repeat anything said means you didn't even give the review a chance, yet you come on this forum post embolden and start debasing it without even watching fully... This behavior defies all modern day education and rehetorical forms of argument. If you disagree at least be intelligent about it.

    I have to agree...

I really wanted to like Defiance -- for it being a Sci Fi MMO if nothing else -- but he is completely correct. It might get better later on, but it might not. I am surprised to see this level of product out of Trion given how good Rift was even at release.

I simply don't understand the complete lack of any real social features and the pathetically bad interface on the PC. Trion knows how to make a MMO. Some of the complaints, like limited skill selection, are not valid complaints in my opinion. This is an MMO-FPS, not a MMO-RPG. But its still an "MMO" and aspects like the practically broken text chat and the weak voice chat options are inexplicable.
