Regardless of the reasons for the way they did it, I actually like this system just because it is different from all the rest. I really have not had a problem with it so far.

You do realize that when you max a weapon's exp that weapon unlocks a hidden ability. That an the weapons you think have good abilitys now will look like crap in a few hundred ego.

Let me put things into perspective for you most games have a level range of 1-50, for defiance every 100 ego is like a level, don't expect to keep useing the same weapon at level 10 that you did at level 2.

Just use whatever weapon you like untill you max it's exp than scrap it, you'll find a better one. If the weapon you have realy is the "perfect one" than just hold on to it untill your skill becomes 20, but I bet you end up scraping it for a better one.

I just asked that question to a Rep on Live Chat.
He is checking for me if its a Bug or if it is working as intended.
I hope its a Bug honestly... But who knows right ?!?

    Edit:
Well, he thinks it might be working as intended, even tho he was unable to get anything official about it... Anyway, maybe Trion will one day figure out over 90% of their Players just hate that BS...

People keep saying this, and it's almost a meme now here, but I don't think it makes as much sense as folks think it does.

I mean, if folks are right and that is their intention, it's almost the worst way to go about doing it. The only thing I can think of that would be worse is if the weapon just broke and had to be vendored.

Here's why I don't think that reasoning is correct and that max XP weapons not adding to skill ups is a bug.
    1. Who cares whether players try different weapons or not? - If someone wants to use only one weapon from EGO 1 to 5,000, and that's fun for them, more power to them! There's absolutely no reason to punish them for doing so, unless you're just the type of person who likes to kick puppies and stomp on kittens.
    2. Incentive to try new weapons should be built into the weapon stats. - If you really want to encourage someone to try different ARs, give them significant and fun differences. Fortunately, Defiance has a lot of different stats to play around with and it's pretty easy to get players to trade their Fire nano AR for a burst-fire Radiation one for a little while, before ultimately deciding on a full-auto Siphon. These differences completely negate the need to limit the lifespan of a specific gun.
    3. It's more important for players to try different classes of weapons. - If your goal is to help players find their play style, there isn't enough variation within a class of weapon to accomplish that. They need to be picking up LMGs, and snipers and shotties, etc. to try those out. In fact, the pursuits already reflect this goal.

So yeah, I think the current system is either bugged, or just bad design. Either way, it needs to get patched out ASAP.

    ^Pretty much this.

I think whats the matter is most MMO's and other action shooters have those farm weapons. Its one gun they look for and once you have it your king till they release new DLC.

Trion did a GOOD thing with the current weapon system. It encourages you to try new things without punishment. The loss in the slight bonus you get from maxing out a weapons level is easily replaced by a higher ego weapon.

Like mentioned too, if its something you want to keep for when your weapon proficiencies hit 20 then keep it.

But you will find something better. I loved my burst fire AR with corrosive damage @ego70. I have found another just like it @ego515. There is very little difference between the two but the 515 has a crit bonus and now 4 mod slots for me to bring over the old mods and put them into my new gun.

So all these people who complain are just used to finding that one gun they stick with forever. Defiance is not that type of shooter.

You use guns as a tool to boost your ego and thats it. Keep those rare ones that you like because once your weapons skills are 20. You can decide for sure which you use and which you wont since it wont matter anymore for you to keep leveling the skills.

Right now, the market for weapons isn't really there as people are trading oranges so they can max out a weapon to get the perfect random bonus.
There is tones to do in this game! I want to be able to use my perfect weapon to do it!

His reasoning sounds like a seasoned Borderlands player through and through, channeling Andy Pitchford's psychotic creed of don't upgrade just replace your guns cuz we can randomly gen a bajillion kagillion rillion xijillion guns!!!!! We have guns that shoot more guns that shoot bullets shaped like smaller guns!!!

It is working as intended, just look in the info section of you game under weapons, it tells you how it works right in the game.

I for one like the way it works.

    +1

It's really not that bad, all the secret vendors sell blue weapons as standard that cover all weapon types pretty much, and they are decent, just buy a new one when your maxed on your current weapon. And when you hit level 20 in a weapon type you can reset the XP on any weapon, so just focus on one thing for now, and then reset weapon xps later so you can level other weapon types easily, don't be so impatient.

And you aren't being punished, if you want to stick to one gun the whole game go ahead, the skills aren't going to make that big of a difference really.. and at least you aren't level 20+ in rollers... yet.. bugs out zzz
