It's incredibly annoying. I'm at LMG lvl 14 and have to carry about 4 SAWs with me at all times because I'm chewing through these badboys at an unholy rate.
I also keep about 4 Wolfhounds for when I'm going to level my pistol skill and I need new Cankers because my last three haven't survived my recent Hulker contract farming.

Exactly. I'm ego rating 1300 and I still have my Orange ego700 guns because they're baller. I use them when I'm soloing / boss battles / pvp and I use unleveled guns when Grinding through dungeon trash. Throwing a weapon away because it reaches the experience cap is stupid. I will admit that I'd like the option to change the buff on legendary guns, possibly through the salvage matrix through high amounts of ark salvage but otherwise I like the gun system.
P.S. This isn't every other MMO its a new animal. It's Defiance.

I do not care for this system, it feels backwards. I level a weapon, it gets better -- I want to continue using it (I do actually on my pvp/arkfall loadout; i hear weapons don't level there and I want the best)
Think about it, is the idea to mod/tweak/familiarize your arkhunter to to his signature weapon by caring for it; hence new abilities at max level. Hell in the show the Nolan wanted his gun back, that thing must have level capped a long time ago.
For it to feel logical, it should to be reversed; weapon start with the extra stat, and once they hit the max level they loose that stat, thus simulating being damaged.
Either way, there is incentive to level new weapons without locking weapon skill; trying to get a weapon to ding the perfect level up skill. I think this is going to be the meta game once we have all maxed out our weapon skills and no longer need to worry about this quirky mechanic.

"good" blues drop frequently under the right circumstances. purps and orange never drop, but you can find some of the best purps under specials in the stores quite often. some of my best guns come from that. as far as my comments not being valid. a lot of greens are decent enough to level to max out that particular gun skill. then you can go back to not whining and using your uber goober gun.![]()

It makes not much difference whether I'm lvling my weapon skill with a white or blue weapon. It's just annoying that I have to carry 5 of them with me at all times. And switching weapons/loadouts while a hulker wants to hulk smash me isn't really something I consider fun.
