Stuck with 2 weapon types?

I'm rank 8 with assault rifles. Less with secondary weapon (detonator). I've been playing around with other weapon types but now I'm wondering if this is a mistake. I mean shouldn't I only focus on 2 weapon types? Any time spent on other weapon types is time not leveling assault rifle and detonator. Lately I've noticed when in Co Op or just running around doing missions, other people working on the same content seem to be doing extremely more damage. My ego rating is 650 currently and I'm doing mission in San Francisco area.

Any thoughts? Also, I'm really not modding weapons much. They level up so fast it seems like a waste of money.?!

My three primary weapons are AR's, detonators and LMG's.

With any of those three, I promise you can place 1 or 2 on the scoreboard in any mission (especially detonators on raiders, really effective on the disgruntled midgets with shields).

One that surprised me was that one of my best matches I scored the highest damage using a semi-automatic, high damage, 20 round clip FRC AR with fast reload. All about the crits!

That being said, I still have been leveling sniper rifles, shotguns and other weapons

Point is, there aren't wrong weapons per se, just depends if you play them to their strengths.

Also, mod every weapon you use. It makes a difference, and scrip comes in fast enough that you should still more than make your money back.

I could be totally wrong but i made a second character and enjoyed it more then my first because i held to just 2 weapons that i focused on.

Sure it got kinda repetitive. But its a shooter so its repetitive regardless.

My biggest question is what level to weapon skills cap at ? 10 ?

Also some might say this is bad but i stopped modding my leveling weapons and sell all the tier 1 and 2 mods.

No you are doing it wrong. Period. You should work all weapons so that you are useful if you run out of ammo in one type. That is why there are multiple loadouts.
