Nothing they changed their style almost entirely. Absolutely nothing. Hmm, landscape remind me of Rift, thats probably biggest similiarity, TR definitely prefer quality zones, well in Defiance's case its world-design, ground isnt flat, they dont like vertical walls, lots of stuff like cars, etc, basically lots of details.

Does this use the same graphics engine as Rift? I hope it runs a lot smoother because Rift can sometimes turn into a slideshow when there's a lot going on.

Great game though. I've spent many hours with all the things there are to do there.

I have some issues with rift when i play on my laptop but on my desktop it is very smooth even with a lot going on screen.

But as to the OP, as a fan of Rift i would say yes the games do have similarities.

I think in some ways they said lets take our game and make it a shooter... but I mean making it a TPS changes the game significantly. So yeah you can say lots of similarity but at the same time its not going to seem similar because we are talking about a serious difference in gameplay.

Like most companies they pulled some ideas that worked from previous games of theirs.

Rift has much better character graphics and animations. Damn consoles...

P.S. Both games has small group instances. I hope Defiance will have "raid" (8-20 person) instances sooner or later.

actually you should say damn shooter... a little lag in a regular MMO isn't a big deal it just has to respond to a click... however in a shooter you need perfect response and no lag or else it gets ruined really quick.

Planetside 2. DX11 shooter with much better graphics - I can play it on all "high" settings (with shadows turned off) on my 2 years old laptop - with at least 25FPS in big battles.

Defiance is DX9 game. "Recommended" settings on Steam show video card 3 generations behind modern cards. It has nothing common with game genre - it's optimization for consoles.

BF3 has also been ported to consoles and the graphics never suffered on the PC end. Nope it's the age of the engine, as over the past 5+ years they've just been tweaking it and honestly it looks great.

well remember one is a shooter and one an RPG so theyre gonna be very different, even different in styles and animations is intentional to fit the theme

Planetside 2 is still DX9 last I checked...you might want to recheck that.

That's why I haven't even bothered to try it. I have the same disappointment here, but I still intend to play this anyway.
