I have been playing shadow war the past few days and I'm finding vehicles to be a real problem. In my last game I got run over within 20 seconds of arriving at the nearest objective to where I spawned... 4 times in a row. I stopped and took a look at the kills coming up in the last minute (winner was already clear) and 60-70% of the kills were vehicle kills.
the problem is that many of the objectives are far too open, and people can just speed an ATV straight into it. with the speed they travel by the time you have seen it, even if you have a decent ranged weapon they have far too much health and are far too difficult to hit when moving at speed.
I have to admit I'm not 100% sure what the distance you have to be within to start capturing an objective (if anyone knows id appreciate it) but I'm often a part of clustered fights within 10m of the objective, and your just far too exposed to ATVs. on top of that they seem to be able to build up speed and OHKO in tiny distances with boosts. I recall an ATV shooting past me at an objective straight into a wall, me firing 3-4 shotgun rounds at it when it was maybe 6-7 meters away, it then turned around and ran me over. I don't recall if I was low health or not, but it just seemed silly.
And the Cerberus' seem to have far too much health as well. I use a grind fragger shotgun, with 10 rounds in the mag. I walked up behind an enemy Cerberus and fired all 10 into the gunner (hoping to kill him out of the gun seat while he wasn't looking). All 10 rounds hit at point blank range and the gunner had barely taken any damage AND the Cerberus was still alive (barely but I'm fairly sure at least some of my team mates would of been shooting it as well). It then exploded and the 3 guys came out fairly unscathed and put me down.
The vehicles are not supposed to be the primary source of kills in a shadow war. Some games have been fine yes, but others are just ruined by this issue.
Some suggestions:
1. Vehicles have less health. I haven't tested the anti vehicle weapons to know if their damage boost is significant, but shadow wars especially mix mid-long range combat with shotgun rushers, its practically mandatory to have a shotgun and with an anti vehicle weapon you are left no mid range at all..... or almost as bad no shotgun (or other close range weapon) to deal with the inevitable cloak shotgun users.
2. Cerberus' kill all occupants when they are destroyed. This might be a bit much if the health is lowered too much, but its an alternative that I think works on quite a few levels. Careless people will get killed if they just drive the Cerberus and park it on the objective unloading all guns, but you can still jump out before it loses its health.
3. More damage goes to the occupants than the vehicle. There are times when I have unloaded on a vehicle only for almost all the damage to hit the vehicle (both Cerberus and ATVs). If more of the damage went to the occupant then it would be far less viable to drive right into the middle of a firefight, and much easier for teams to say take out the gunner specifically.
4. Greatly reduced collision damage. I don't think ATVs should be a OHKO. quite often when i have clipped people going between objectives I simply knock them over and take their shield off. I think if this was the norm as opposed to flat out killing people, it would really combat the people speeding their ATVs though objectives constantly looking for kills. Running someone over would still give a significant advantage, but it can't be used as the sole offense, you'd have to hit them then get out and finish them off (or run them over twice).
5. More objects around objectives. It means if there is lots of objects around the objectives then it would be harder to pick up speed and keep it for OHKOs. They would need to be quite dense in order to cover the objective from all sides fairly. There would still be gaps, so people could still do it, but it would make it a lot more awkward and hopefully make it a lot less effective.
Thanks.
