So much typing yet so wrong: you'll get a key from Steam to put it into your Trion account and all your arkfall codes will be in effect.

Next...LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY! After playing Bioware's ToRtanic and facing probably the worst customer support and dev carelessness in my life, I can't express this enough. We want to hear from the team and know what is going on and we hope that you will in turn listen to us and our suggestions. Just take hints from Bioware...and by that I mean avoid doing anything they did in the realm of customer support and...well, interaction in general. That includes: Disregarding the players with a 'I'm the dev, I know what you want' mindset and going headlong into things nobody actually wants, remaining silent in regards to bugs/exploits/balance (we actually do like to know if these things are being dealt with) and please actually deal with said bugs/exploits/balance! No cover ups and work-arounds to an issue. (Again, ToRtanic.) Admit and fix, we won't hate you.
Easier said than done. They're a business. We don't know how it works behind the scenes. Listening to the community won't always work.

taken from the steam discussion about throwing questions at the devs, page 2. so Roger911 is wrong, if you want to preorder through steam, you dont miss out on the arkfall codes still being found.

(Warning: This post uses metaphors and obscur logic.)

You're right, they are a business. That is exactly why they should listen. This does not mean they need to implement every suggestion or reply to everyone's burning question, rather it means they should be keeping a good idea as to what their customers want.

Now, we forget that this is, as you stated, a business and what we are paying for is the product. Do you go to the store and spend your hard earned money on things that are cheaply made and faulty? Unless money is tight, I doubt it. Now a video game...recreational, fun...also $60 and not a necessity. See what I'm getting at yet? Sure there will still be many folks buying and swearing by the cheap and faulty things, but there will be that many more who passed it by due to a complaint they had or heard someone had...

So this is not about what they can or can't handle, but instead what they need to be able to handle if they want some success in the MMO world. (And by success, I do not mean scrape by...)

I understand your concern. I just wanted to address a couple things I read. One you worried about the in game store and the game becoming a pay to win experience. They (the devs/community managers) have addressed this question multiple times in different places. They don't want the game to be a pay to win experience either. The micro transaction store will consist of cosmetic changes and boosts, like XP or increased scrip found. Consider it being something similar to the Guild Wars 2 store, cosmetic items and nothing that gives one player an advantage.

The other issue I noticed was Roger's comment on not being able to link your steam account to the trion account, thus shutting you out from Arkfall codes. This isn't the case. When the game launches on Steam they will provide you with a CD Key, either through email, or when you right click the game under your library you can look up your cd key. Then you will take this key and type it into the redeem code page of TrionWorlds' website. Since your arkfall codes are stored with Trion and Trion now has your steam code the two are "linked"... When you launch the game from Steam a Defiance launcher will pop up. You will input your TrionWorlds account info and an authenticator code if you have one. From then on all the work is done on Trion's end. That is the end of Steam's involvement.

Well, as a long-time Rift player, I can say that Trion is actually very good at game making. No idea about profit making, but they don't seem to focus on that to me. (Yes, they are a business. and yes, they are making money. But that seems to be a more secondary motivator: "Oh, we can have lots of fun and make a game? Great. Wait, we can make money too? AWESOME!" -that seems to be their mindset, to me ) They are constantly releasing new stuff, and it keeps me quite happy We can only assume the same sort of quality from any other venture they pursue.

I have faith in Trion. I don't believe they will let us down.

Having played Rift myself for a long time I can fully agree with what Lightcaster said regarding Trion. If something is wrong, its gets fixed very quickly, there are no huge downtimes of servers like what happened with WoW (specially in the beginning) all the time. They consistently produce new content and updates, and overall listen and actually care what the community thinks/wants, to an extent obviously(no they won't make major changes if they aren't warranted just because someone cries on a forum).
