Is it just me, or does everyone else have horrible luck with Arkdrops? All I ever get are some lame grenades or a shield? When do I get an actual weapon I can actually use???

You will get a weapon you can use, I've gotten a purple from one before. Although it was an infector, so meh not my style. But even if you don't get good weapons, you will probably scrap them for lockboxes anyways. I do arkfalls for lockboxes tbh and would recommend you do the same.
I think they give us shields and grenades because we can get weapons and mods from lockboxes.
You see, part of the awards of an arkfall are keycodes that we use to open those lockboxes.
But the lockboxes didn't include shields or grenades.
That's what I do now, with the lockboxes I mean. I just think doing Arkfalls would feel so much more rewarding if I had gotten a few weapons here and there. If that makes sense.
Someone had mentioned that the rewards get better with a higher EGO rating, but idk.

That's a very good point, I never thought of it that way. Still I've seen friends get orange weapons, while I'm just sitting there with a bunch of 'nades.
this opinion is questinable at best because im on ego rating 450 and im using a shield with ego rating 236 that is purple and has 70% recharge rate with a 3sec cool down, havent found a better shield yet and it works
