It's been done in a closed setting, and Final Fantasy XI had it, so we know it's possible. When do we think this game will get it? I think it will have a much longer shelf life as a whole if all the users who purchase the game are able to play together, regardless of the platform they purchase it for.

Based on what I have heard this is something that at the moment in not going to happen. It is not based on Trion not wanting to do it as they have indicated that it is indeed possible. The problem stems from the fact that Sony and Microsoft are not on the best of terms and refuse to budge on this.
Both Microsoft and Sony are afraid that their users may get a glimpse of a competing network they may like it better and thus would lose customers. Complain to them, not here.
They are just afraid of the PC master race and their 1 ns reaction times.
