Adding Friends

How do I add friends in-game and then get to them? A step by step walkthrough would be awesome, I am trying to relay this to a buddy who is slow and I do not use PS3.

I think the only way to do so is by adding people onto your PSN currently. Far as I'm aware, your PSN friend list is your Defiance friend list, there's no separation between the two.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love for there to be an ingame friends list to this game.
