Yay for advertising!

About a week ago I started seeing banner ads for Defiance on True Achievements.

Today there's a front page video link under the games tab on XBox LIVE showcasing PvE and PvP.

The word is spreading people! Now maybe some of my friends will actually get interested, since no one seemed to care when I explained how awesome this looks:-)

I don't think this game actually needs much advertising. I think people will start coming to the game as more people watch the show and find out it has a dual experience.

Word of mouth is still the best. Just doesn't give people that instant gratification but in time they'll see, literally.

I agree with this. The show will be their biggest advertisement, but not every-one has cable or can get Syfy in their homeland. It will be up to us to spread the word in those areas as soon as NDA is lifted, unless they do a mass open Beta.

To compare with other games: couple of weeks before release Planetside 2 sub-reddit had 11000 subscribers. Defiance sub-reddit has less than 400 subscribers at the moment. Also SOE's stuff monitor and answer questions on Reddit - Trion didn't do anything like that with Defiance. It seems someone put all their eggs into TV show basket...

im thinking they are relying alot on the tv show to bring people in. rightly or wrongly we shall see.

but i have definatly seen a ramp up over the last week. machima, and a couple of uk tv shows have all reviewed it as "the one to watch" i dont think they ment it as a pun either

I'm sorry. Maybe I'm a dinosaur but WTF is a reddit? I clicked the link and am still confused. It looks like a 1st week high school programming project from 1997. Is it something that people, outside of a niche community, actually use/care about?

I can't count the number of times I've seen people say things like, "Never heard of this game before. Never would've known about it if someone hadn't mentioned it in the [so and so] thread."

Word of mouth is great, and will certainly help, but there's no doubt that having it on the XBox LIVE dashboard will generate interest in the people who don't have Syfy, or frequent random forums, or go hunting for unadvertised games.

When I first got interested in this game, I spent hours upon hours hunting down information, and only know as much about it as I do thanks to my one track research mind. A lot of people don't do that, and even after compiling all the information I found and sending it off to my playing buddies, they were unresponsive and/or dubious.

But an easy to find trailer is something everyone can take a bite out of, and I welcome all the newcomers who are finally discovering what we here in the forums have been impatiently clamoring for since our first taste:-)
