What does MMO mean to you ?

I will list what it means to me and it is just random order.

    1) Grouping with people.
    2) Being in a guild where the MMO has a guild perk system for growing your guild. So you will want to be in a guild to get these perks.
    3) Crafting is a big part to me. I love making weapons of my own .
    4) Open world events.
    5) Questing
    6) Mounts
    7) PvP and oPvP
    8) Weapon and Armor upgrade slots (Something like Runes you can add)
    9) Having resource nods all over the world to harvest for crafting.
    10) Update the MMO every four months to keep it new and fresh.
    11) PATCH as needed .

You pretty much nailed it on the head of a what a basic MMO should have. As for me all those, plus friends list and group finder.

This is exactly what I thought, even if from my point of view, PVP would in the first place. The most important aspect is guild and interaction with others. I want to quest solo but group when I want. Grouping all the time is boring for me. Sometime you just want to do some quest alone.

for me, the big things are(no order, just making a list)

    1: guilds
2: group content(dungeons, raids, quests that need more than 1 player to finish, etc)
3: a good story that ties everything together(MMOs are usually RPGs in some form or fashion after all! give me a story!)
4: to a much lesser extent, quality pvp. it is so rare that i find this, that i usually don't even bother with pvp in mmos. for me, the only games that have done it to where i've enjoyed it, are dark age of camelot, warhammer online, and tabula rasa(guild vs guild pvp matches go!).

while most if not all MMOs should have a crafting system of some kind, i generally don't care for them as i view them as just a waste of time, since the vast majority of crafted gear is usually outclassed by raid drops / higher tier pvp gear. the only worthwhile crafting IMO is potions/food/runes/enchants/etc that you can't buy from a vendor.

Every MMO needs a Community. I think that was the biggest thing that you missed the stuck out to me. I look at when I started playing WoW way back and there was a great community which declined very quickly. Rift I aways thought had a great community, still does from what I can tell, not as great as it was at the start though. I'm hoping the Master Race PC Gamers will have a good community for this game, I feel most of the younglings will be playing on XBox.

the whole list, +weekly guild sieges, +undocumented raids/items/etc. for us to find out as a community. if you actually pull off the tv show, with us as the community influencing it, you will have a triple A game right here.

All that coupled with a crappy character creation system.
Seriously, why can't MMO games ever have a decent character creation editor.
So far, RIFT has had the best one, IMO.

Pretty much a video game I can play in an open world with a community that makes me want to continue to play the game. I play MMOs because I enjoy being social and playing a game at the same time.
