PSN Maintenance on 4/15. A (very basic) question.

So... PSN will be performing maintenance on 4/15 - the exact date Defiance is on and the new patch is coming. My partner just got a PS3 a few months ago. Before that it was Xbox for me. And this is the first game I've played online. So, I have a pretty basic question...

It says to log-in to PSN between now and before the maintenance begins to still go online and play. But... what do they mean by that? When I start my PSN up, I have to choose between my account or my partners. Is that when you log into PSN? Or is it constantly on PSN until I disconnect it, and I'm just choosing a user? Does it keep you connected even after you turn it off? Or do I need to start my PS3 up, log-in and keep it on early morning 4/15?

Sorry, I know this is VERY basic, but I don't want to miss out on 4/15. Thanks so much in advance, and have mercy on my PS3 noob-ness.

They probly mean that it is PSN is working now and that you can play up until the maintenace.
You arent logged-in until you Sign-in under a PlayStation Account.
Each User should have a PSN account set up with it....so when you log in your username that doesnt get you on PSN until you Sign-In

It means that if you use your account logged into psn between now and the start of the maintenance you will be able to log in to play online during the maintenance. However if you do not use your account online between now and when maintenance starts you will not be able to log in to psn when it's under maintenance.

Thanks, yes, I got that from reading it. My question is much more basic. On a PS3, are you signing into PSN when you select your user name with a multiple user name set-up? Because every time I restart the PS3 it makes me choose the user again. In that case, the only way to sign-in would be to keep it on, unless it just remembers the last user to log-in as being already signed into PSN. Make sense? I'll do some more poking around online to try to get an answer. Just thought it might be faster here since we know what the issue will be.

You dont gotta keep it on..
you can change the settings to make it logg on to your user when you turn your ps3 on
you sign in to the psn when you chose all matters if you have autosign in on
you will make it through maintenance just fine :|

"signing in"means goining online. So they want you to sign in to online between now and the 15th. Not choose an account to get on the ps3 with. Just get online befrore the 15 and youll be fine. Like play a game online.

As along as you sign in to PSN an hour or before on Monday. You will be able to play Defiance through out the day during the Maintenance.

to dumb it down:
Your PS3 has a Local User List ie. NeoDraven
The PSN has a Online ID of NeoDraven1 which was created under that user ID

If you login to your PSN Id which is not your local ID at startup usually, before the PSN login server goes down for maintenance(this includes PSN store) as long as you do not log out of PSN you will be able to play Defiance, if for some reason your PS3 locks up or your forced to reboot you will not be able to login to the Playstation Servers and will not be able to access your Defiance account associated with that PSN ID.

If you attempt to sign-in during this period, you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access PSN. The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during the maintenance period. However, you WILL be able to access online play and apps provided that you have signed in to the Network at some point between now and the time of the maintenance.

people are wrong. as long as you log into anything you want to use on the 15 you can use online, game and app wise. lets say you play call of duty and you are going to want to use it on the 15th, then you need to log in it now just so you will be able to use it, same as Defiance but i didn't say defiance cuz i assume you already logged on that.

the same goes for apps, i only use youtube, so if i want to use youtube during that time i need to log with it before it goes into maintenance. then it will allow me.

so if you dont log online with a game/app before they go on maintenance between now and then, you wont be able to do it when the maintenance happens. you WILL be able to play those game/apps but you cant go to the playstation store, playstation home or manage your account at the time.

its not that confusing but i see alot of people saying you need to be logged in, which yeah i guess you could but if you dont log online with whatever game or app you wont be able to log online with it during the maintenance.
