Raikon, your "attempt" and I do men attempt to come across as condescending and intellectual failed terribly after spelling "bear" rather than "bare" and finishing with " me thinks" as opposed to "I think".

I've played all paid mmos since I started EQ in 1998 all up around 15 years total and I do mean I've played all the mmos that are actually worth playing. Is this an mmo ATM?? It sure isn't by a long shot, is it a great fps? Sure is. So before you try to exert your expertise in the mmo genre I suggest that you actually get some experience behind you first because it is clear to me you have none what so ever.

Think about that before posting again and embarrassing yourself further.

Your belief of what the term MMO should mean doesn't alter what it actually is. Reality doesn't bend itself to your whims.

Furthermore, it's funny for you to talk down to another person when you're calling a third person shooter a first person shooter. Why should anyone think that you have a clue you know what you're talking about when you get those things confused so easily?

Think about that before posting again and embarrassing yourself further.
Go ahead and follow your own advice.

MMO stands for massively multiplayer online... massive .. I'd say it qualifies, multiplayer .. just finished an Arkfall with about 30 people present, so yep... online? Well obviously. It also meets the fourth sort of hidden requirement of being a persistent online world. So therefor it meets all the criteria of MMO.

What it doesn't have are alot of the RPG elements like crafting taken from a MMORPG, but then again, its not really a MMORPG, its a hybrid game and could best be called a MMOFPS. Of course that can be argued and debated, but its not even relevant to the threads idea.. is Defiance a MMO? Yes.

Trion says it is a MMO shooter / TPS so that is what it is. People can speculate all they want though.

MMO.... This stands for Massive Multiplayer Online , kk
So Trio has produced a game that needs, ok bear with me here, as it might take some understanding?
A game that has a possible massive amount of people playing it......check.
As above it has multiple players doing quests, playing with each other and enjoying the environment....check.
It needs a constant internet connection to play therefore online.....check.
This game is incredible for an MMO in its first week or so.
Trion are doing an incredible job on all 3 platforms.
    So ....MMO?
Me thinks you need to play another game and leave us people who can see a really good gaming achievement growing right in front of us to play in peace.
This guy speaks the truth. MMO games doesnt need crafting or all those ingame possibilities. All it needs is the 3 things he mentions and it has that.

Planetside 2 is a MMOFPS. it doesnt have crafting either nor quests and what not. but it doesnt make it less of an mmo.

All you guys saying its not an mmo is not because you want it to be an mmo. You want it to have rpg elements. Which it might but currently does not have (apart from quests really). Neither is it advertised there is rpg elements.

Defiance may have a massive amount of people playing at once sure, but it sure as hell doesn't have a lot of those people playing together. The way the UI is set up I wouldn't even know how to ask a random player I might see on the map if they want to team up and unless they're on the same mission line, which is very unlikely, there's no reason for them to say yes or for me to even ask since there's no way to share missions anyway.

What the game "feels" like, does not make what the game "is". The game IS an MMO. But the game may feel like a single - coop FPS, and it is understandable. What Defiance is trying is quite different than all of the other fantasy MMOs.
