Call me crazy but I think SMG's should shoot SMG ammo.

I totally agree that SMG should have their own ammo pool. I've thought this since beta. Not only do SMGs serve a different purpose than Assualt Rifles and LMGs... the dmg/bullet ratio makes them less desirable in matters where ammo really counts (last fights in major ark falls). This also makes SMGs terrible to pair up in a loadout with an Assault Rifle or LMG in primary and secondary slots.
I think they should have their own ammo pool as well. SMGs (especially Pulsers) have an incredibly high fire rate. The Tachmag Pulsers have a 50 bullet clip, and a fire rate of 25 (Without any modifications). The pistol ammo pool currently only has 150 bullets. You would be out of ammo in under 10 seconds.

I agree with OP.
I think SMG ammo should share ammo pools with Pistols - and that pistol ammo pool should be bumped up to 500 (since pistol ammo is smaller and lighter than rifle ammo there is no reason why a person should be able to carry LESS of it anyway).
This way SMG & Pistol share ammo and AR & LMG share ammo.
No changes would have to be made to the 'in-game menu art'.
No major changes would have to be made to in-game code (just swap out one value for another, rather than making an entirely new pool).
The way it is set up now it encourages the use of only 1 or 2 of the three weapon types.
I know that any time I get a SMG I end up selling or salvaging it simply because I don't want to eat into the ammo pool of my main weapon.
How about we increase the ammo capacity you can carry with Higher EGO Ratings.
I don't agree with a single thing you said.
They don't serve a different purpose. They're a high rate of fire short-medium range weapon. LMG's and AR's are generally high ROF medium-long range weapons; however, there's variants within each group of weapons that bridge the gaps, with higher ROF LMG's like disruptors shortening the range and mazu blast rifles basically being an AR version of the SMG's. There's an SMG that works better when aiming that is just as good at range as the AR's are.
Their ammo makes them less desirable in situations where you can't replenish it easily, but the rate of fire on an SMG means you can still put out enough damage to make the weapon competitive if you leave the arkfall and reload. Certain AR's have the exact same problem for the exact same reason.
SMG's aren't supposed to pair with LMG's and AR's. That's the point. If you want something that works like that, there are fast firing machine pistols you can get... you just have to deal with the terrible pistol ammo pool.
I use SMG's almost all the time. You have to be a little smarter with them than with an LMG or AR, but never being stuck reloading is worth the trouble. I also never have any trouble outdamaging most, if not all, of the people at any arkfall event with one.
Switch loadouts when a weapon doesn't fit a situation, that's what they're there for.
