Welcome to the world of international game marketing. I had a discussion with a GM in another game with the same setup, and they said that they needed to have the profanity filter in, among other reasons, so they could meet the necessary requirements for certain ratings in various countries. You obviously don't want to have to create a different version of the game for each different regulatory body's market, so they kinda go with the lowest common denominator and work from there.
That would explain why it's in there to begin with, even with the actual game content being what it is. I'm a little surprised there isn't a means to turn it off, tho.

The really stupid thing is that it censors normal words that may contain a letter combination that is in the filter.

Best part is the word Salvage gets censored because it has v-a-g in that order. I simply was talking about DEing an item, heaven forbid we use the in-game name for something. I guess they would prefer us to still use the names from other games...
It's pretty sad that the NPC's can swear like troopers but we can barely chat properly without the stupid profanity filter censoring us. We sooooooooooooooooooooooooo need to be able to turn that shtako off.
You're playing a game about a post apocalyptic earth. You have to deal with these things that can kill you at any given moment. I'm sure if you have to go through this. You would be cussing up a storm too.
They need to add an option to turn it off. I actually can't believe it's not in there already. I sometimes have to try and figure out what someone has typed into chat (which admittedly isn't all that common due to the dire state of chat) since the overly sensitive filter blocks out parts of so many words.
i hate swear words they burn my ears i wish i could turn on a profanity filter for the games audio so i dont have to hear it. f this f that f this... the f word doesn't make stuff cool swear words don't make u a bada@#
