Some of these games may not have launched with 50+ zones, but they certainly did not lunch with less than 5.

I love Defiance so far, and that is exactly why I am yearning for a bigger map, so I can love it longer and play it longer.

Most of those zones are tiny. I'd say the only zone I can recall off the top of my head that is a comparable size to a zone in this game would probably be the original Barrens (which got split into two mini-zones in Cataclysm). There are some encounters areas in this game bigger than some WoW zones (Dark Matter base looks to be bigger than Deadwind Pass for instance).

mmm I think the map is just fine as it is all in all considering. Five zones seems small but if you did not use a vehicle and walked, it would take awhile...Just to see it for myself I walked from one arkfall in a major event to another and by the time I got there, it was already done. (Revolting Hellbugs was the major's name)

As it stands, Trion did rather well with what they had to go with. They are making a side story to a TV show...the side story cant stray off and do this before the show gets around to the tidbit line it might have in relation to it. Also if the game throws a plot twist out that effects the entire Defiance Universe, the show gets effected. They cant just willy-nilly add crap just to give us more depths of content or what not to do because it could ruin the "synergy" between game and show.

Taking WoW as an example, everything is in the exact same place most of the time, in Defiance you never know what type of dynamic event is around the next corner.
    Seriously?

Defiance is maybe 1/3 the size of either vanilla WoW continent. I don't even know if it's that really. There is also far less variation in Defiance from the environment to the quests. Game is small.

    They really aren't.

Stranglethorn Vale, Azshara, Silithus, Western Plaguelands, Eastern Plaguelands...

I doubt that, but I'll have to take your word for it since I'm still working my way through the storyline.

I am one of the most casual player here i think. 1 to 2 hours a day and now i am at last mission to kill Nim. I have done all side quests, rampage, races etc. 13 days that is it took playing very casual.

    I sometimes wonder what if i played 10 hours a day..lol!

The games map is smallish compared to that of other games but like a lot of people have pointed out the game is still pretty new and I'd be surprised if the first DLC doesn't open up more areas. If this game can last long enough I can see entire areas of America and possibly the rest of Earth as being zones. They could even have some areas that take place in derelict space ships orbiting Earth.

    Stranglethorn Vale
    Fair point. Forgot about that.

    Azshara
Not really as big as you think, mostly just a pain to get around due to the steep drops and water.

    Silithus, Western Plaguelands, Eastern Plaguelands
None of these are particularly big either. Western Plaguelands is actually quite tiny.

The later expansions did add a number of comparably sized zones though. Once the flying mounts were in the game, traveling across larger areas actually became feasible. Remember, epic mounts are only +100% speed, whereas epic flying mounts added +280% or +310% speed so the zone sizes were able to be scaled up.

No it dont have as many - even with all 4 major Expansions

It start with only 10 zones acctually (Angmar was final zone)
    Right now - its maybe 25 (+/- 2)
Some zones are really big - like Bree, other are small like Ered Luin.
I think that Bree and Shire combined is at least Defiance map size, if not bigger

Try walking from stratoscarrier to san fran, you won't think its so small anymore.
I give you ONE game im playing - Fallen Earth. Defiance looks like it is a casual clone of that game actually
Map is so HUGE - that i think first map from 7, is 50 time bigger then whole Defiance.
If you try to walk anywhere - you die by boredom - and even riding on your hourse to other sector takes ages
Its one of biggest map in MMO (btw except horses there are atv, dune buggy and cars in there)

And yes - Defiance map is right now, VERY small
I seriously hope they give us more space to play, those grayed areas looks promising.

Even worse - there is very little landscape variety right now. I want to see a CITY, no docks, not some tent - a whole city (let me guess - we gonna get one - Defiance and thats it)
I wanna see some heavy forested area - where car will just not fit offroad
i want to see some flat/dune desert - like those areas from SyFy trailers

And dont forget about one of Defiance most annoying limitations - Invisible walls everywhere, i can stand small map, but why i cant jump up the cliff to nearby arkfall, but need to ride around for 2 minutes? Cmmon Trion, thats not nice at all
