This damn problem keeps coming back now and then. Then some amount of hours later it works fine and I won't encounter this issue for days. Meanwhile my girlfriend's laptop right next to me doesn't encounter this problem.

What I've noticed when this happens is that I'm unable to ping their update server, as well as being unable to download the client install file from their website at https://defiancepc.trionworlds.com/a...ge-game.action

It tries going to http://update03.triongames.com/ch3-i...ianceSetup.exe and fails. Pinging update03.triongames.com fails. Pinging update02.triongames.com works. My girlfriend can ping update03.triongames.com just fine next to me as well as download the DefianceSetup.exe.

The only difference we have between systems is I'm on Windows 8. The only thing that seems to fix it for me is waiting an undisclosed amount of time when it magically begins working again.

Ok, tried one more thing I had forgotten to do in the previous times this has happened to me. Go to cmd.exe and do ipconfig /renew.

After I did that this time the patcher is working fine. So the question is, did renewing my IP fix it, or did the 6 minutes between it being messed up and when I just tried it happen to be the magical amount of time for it to fix itself.

So, if you get this versions file issue, try going to a command window (windows key + R, type cmd) and then type in the command "ipconfig /renew" without quotes and hit enter.
