This is a garbage article. Xbox Live goes down for pockets of time fairly frequently. There's no reason to assume the service was hacked, and especially no reason to assume credit cards are at risk. The "source" the article uses is a facebook post with horrible spelling and grammar which also claims that "Xbox Live may never return," which would be an absolute crock even if the service had been hacked.

FYI, to anyone concerned over this article or any other that suggests that the service was hacked down, keep in mind that a large part of the reason the PSN hack was significant was because users' information, including credit card information, was stored in plaintext. Microsoft is probably not that dumb, especially given that they've witnessed the PSN attack themselves. To be absolutely fair, though, I would have assumed Sony not to be that dumb as well. In any case, there's no reason to freak out over a service outage.

I signed into today, by downloading my profile, and it worked I was able to sign in, but my friends list is blank... lol... I guess I'm not friends with anyone anymore.. oh well Im playing defiance now

I was able to sign online & so was a friend. This is how we did it. Might work for you or it might not. Try to sign in then when it does not let you go to test connection. Test it let it say internet is up bla bla when it says xbox is up. Right at that moment before you get the service error hit your guide button and sign in. This worked for us. Let me know how hit goes. ( You must hit the guide and sign in before you get the service error)

Seems to be back up and running now, I'm seeing less people complaining on forums about the service being down so that's a good sign. And I'm using the Xbox 360 Internet Explorer to type this, so it seems to be working in my area.

Now does anyone have any idea if Trion would be nice enough to extend any boosts that happened to be running during the downtime? I'm not expecting it, but it would be something really great to see.

My service never went down, but my friends list is gone from my console and xbox.com. I also cannot join/host parties or send/receive messages.
