Honestly, its 50/50 I think. Most preorders happen the weekend before the release and being that it went up on the 5th of this month on there that means it has an average increase of 2.3% a day as of right now. Won't know till it hits the spike. I think and would guess would be this weekend while the beta weekend is going and like I said the last 4-5 days before release it should start moving fast. However we will see I am just using what I know from being a former Gamestop store manager for 5 years and how reserves worked at a store level.

I am honestly not sure why everyone is pissing on each other about where to buy the game? To each his/her own. The devs still get the profits from the other retailers selling the game, except other retailers offer some extra incentives so why not go for it? For me I will be getting the game on Steam, since I have most of my games on Steam regardless and Steam's community hub as well as Big Picture allows you to play the game with a controller(not saying you can't without steam). You also track your gametime and are able to take screenshots. The extra tier unlocks we get are also a plus so why not?

If everyone works together, in this case work equals spending money on steam for the preorder, everyone benefits. Has Steam done this before? I like what they are doing from a social/scientific perspective.

Yea, they did it with Tomb Raider and some others. They basicly only do it on large titles they know they will get a return on because basicly I am sure they have an agreement that states if they sell x copies Trion will give them extra content or either they worked out with Trion if they sell x copies they will buy the content to drive sales. Normally in this setups the first tier is the big one to hit and the others are less since its harder to get more after the first goal since you already have such a large base of users with it. Normally the people that know they want it then you start to get the people that are on the edge and get pushed over by a friend or they are kind of interested and go "well at least I get more free stuff."

The other possibility is that everyone else is just jelly that Steam managed to get such a deal with Trion for extra bonus stuff for pre-order so late after everyone has already pre-ordered elsewhere like a month ago and now they don't want others to get those extra bonuses and are trying to scare people from getting it on Steam.

In the end it honestly doesn't matter because everything you get is for the start. The weapons, atv, challanger, the 4x4 all the stuff you will get something better from a quest, drop or bought and are in game anyways just with different looks. Honestly the only thing that even makes the steam rewards worth a damn is the inventory slots you get if they get all 3 tiers and the discount on the season pass. You figure between the inventory slots you get from the steam rewards the deluxe and the ark hunter codes you get +21 inventory slots. Which is actually when you think about it kind of crazy, true just more stuff to manage but thats more time exploring and less time running back to sell or what not.

22:02 GMT march 11th 2013 steam pre orders for defiance is at 14% into stage 1.

you will be lucky to get stage 1 for launch day.

most of the pc player base has either prepurchesed digital directly from trion or get a physical copy from a shop.

steam started to late for its prepurchase. plus its not advertised propperly yet

Not if you want the Ultimate Edition, since only Failstop has those.

Yea, but like I said I am sure once tier 1 is done they actually need fewer people for the following tiers and like I have said it will pick up this weekend with beta and I am sure and then the week before release. However its not like it matters if steam users get stuff they get it. If they don't they don't, at least they have a chance to get more.
