Defiance tested with a SSD Samsung 840 : not the same game !

    Hello friends,

I decided to try the game from a SSD drive (Samsung 840 250go) after seeing this : http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...s3-performance

    And the result is there.

-Loading times significantly reduced : -30 seconds~ for the first big loading time when connecting, probably -50% when loading an instance, pvp map or for a cinematic.
The difference is here, no doubt about it.

-No more lag/delay in the inventory, map or the menu.
it appears directly, no more "hud bug" at all.

-No more kind of mini "sounds freeze", and voices are much less delayed.

-No more objects or textures that appear late, especially in the time trial challenge. This is clean, and I think, but not sure, that the players models appear faster too (during arkfalls for example)

This is the perfect game to be optimized with a SSD, because of the streaming (maps, textures) and the lot of menus / sounds.
With a SSD, it kicks *** and it is so much better BUT do not buy a SSD only for that, not worth it.
But if you already have a ssd, or can take it from your pc or laptop for some time, do not hesitate at all !

SSD's do give some boost to PS3 games! Mostly the one's that fully install/Downloaded from PSN. I've used a 512Gb Crucial m4 for about a year now

Hm... thats interesting! So all the Hub lag and bugs are coming from the slow PS3 HD?
Its really time for a new Gen of consoles!

    Plus the lack of RAM

Once my 500GB 5400rpm drive started to get full, I upgraded my PS3 to the Seagate Momentus XT 750GB.
    http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Moment.../dp/B00691WMJG

It is just $120 from Amazon and it is a 7200RPM drive with a portion that is SSD. So it is what they call a Hybrid drive. It basically moves whatever is being accessed more frequently to the SSD portion automatically and this way you get SSD performance and HDD cost/storage.

I was surprised to read you say 30 seconds to load. In my experience the game loads pretty fast... so maybe it is because of the Hybrid drive I have been using. I have the PSN edition of the game so it all runs from the Hybrid drive (no Blu-Ray involved).

The first loading time after logging in takes 10 sec, now, so I'm not sure about the 30 sec but it's totaly different. It was pretty slow before the installation of the SSD.

The inventory / menu is clean now, the delay still appears sometimes when there is a lot of things at the screen (arkfalls or coop missions) but it's a question about 2-3 sec.

The momentus xt is pretty nice but it's a 7200 rpm + SSD, so more heat than a classic 7200, and a 7200 rpm hdd is not appropriate for the PS3. It's going to be pretty hot in your ps3, I hope it's not a fat !
