I'm surprised there was even a treaty and they weren't just nuked in orbit immediately. Particularly if they appear to have arrived as they did in the show. Especially since they are 'illegal immigrants', given how we tend to treat them nowadays.

If your fleet of hundreds of ark ships is planning to arrive peacefully, you need to send an advance warning to the planet in question and not just enter their atmosphere. Of course, maybe at the time they left their home system they didn't expect there to be any civilisation on the planet (same mistake as The Race in Worldwar by Turtledove perhaps).

I imagine that there is some launch protocol to launch nukes at things in orbit around the planet.

And what would that say for humanity? That we all just like to "shoot first, ask questions later"? LOL

Countries have been known to allow immigrants in that have special skills such as German scientists being recruited by the US because they could build stuff.

Votans have the tech and we have the land. We will bend over backwards to get it.

    ... Yep.

OK, it would probably depend on who was in power ...

It might be, "ask questions then shoot"...

Still, you think that they would notice at some point along their journey that there are radio signals and other broadcasts ... and if it was on autopilot, I would hope someone in charge would wake up before the ships were in the atmosphere.

Pretty sure the fleet was run by an artificial intelligence during the period where the organic crew was in hypersleep (it was a 5,000 year journey)... so maybe that intelligence just thought it was background radiation?
